What does it take to get people to read your articles?

So what does it take for people to read your articles. When I first joined Xomba I had a good reader ship. But it seemed the content of most articles others wrote was mostly gross stuff or trash so I began to lose interest.

I sort of stopped posting a lot when spring came but back again and getting VERY few reads and not finding a whol lot of stuff interesting to read either. Why don't people read aricles much anymore other than smut and gossip rag sheet stuff or crude rude garbage?

Glad to help!

It took me a little while to figure it out myself, but I am happy to make it easier for everyone else. :)

Thank You

for the help. Let me see how it works.

The Banner

For Feeburner, go to www.feedburner.com and open an account. You will need your feed URL for here, which is http://www.xomba.com/xombyte/celanith. Once your account is established, click on the *publicize* tab and you will decide how you want your banner to look. Once you decide, you can preview it. (Make sure you tick the little box to avoid getting the "capture this" next to your banner. You'll see what I mean when you are on that page.) Once you approve the layout, you will have them generate the HTML code for it. On the dropdown menu, choose "I don't care, just give me the code". Cut-and-paste the code they give you into your signature block here and you are all set.

Thanks for the tips

I don't pay much attention to the Hollywood crowd a bit more to politics and none at all to sports so not up or versed on making responses to such. I do know it appears over half the writers here are in the 18-30 age group which explains some of the content. So are you saying if I wrote a movie review on the stupid movie for example "Barnyard" it was a stupid movie thought funny in a sick sort of sad way. I might get more interest LOL. Maybe I should start watch ET on ABC at night? Anyway thanks for the tips and BTW how do you get a banner like that? I do understand what you mean about dignity. I am 58 year old grandmother so guess out of touch with todays heros, super stars and favored idols. My grandkids are not quite old enough to be interested yet about three more years they will be.

Celanith

Hello everyone, stop and set awhile.

For me, it's about balance...

There are many disturbing subjects that are made popular for even more disturbing reasons, which evidentally makes a compelling reason to create cheap, mindless, throwaway copy here on this website. There are certain people whose sole "writing" career is producing large quantities of such material. What I've discovered--and others mileage may vary--is that it is easier to work the system from both within and without, while still maintaining my dignity. On the 2Girls0Brain topic, I used the feeding frenzy to both educate and offer social commentary. Since Dave and Nick stated that no one could post the direct link to the website in question, I knew that people would read anything related to the 2G0B trying to find the link. Therefore, I had somewhat of a captive audience to make a social statement. I still write and post original articles based on subjects of my own choosing and interests, but working both sides gives me enough of an education as a writer so I can lay the foundation for future success on my personal website. What I've also found helpful is the banner link from Feedburner that stays in my signature block as sort of a constant advertisement of my last 5 Xombytes. Since it is an HTML link, it constantly updates, which gives me a side project of participating in the Xomba community via comments with the added benefit of self-promotion.
