What is the Difference Between the Truth and Being Right?

What is the Difference Between the Truth and Being Right?

I have written before questioning whether Truth--as in THE Truth--has a political party. That was about two months ago. Since that article, the political campaigns have heated up and the formality of the conventions have passed. We know who is on the Republican ticket and we know who is on the Democratic ticket and that's about it.

In the Bible, which is quoted by a good many people here, there is a verse that says "The Truth shall set you free." Notice it does not say "Being right shall set you free" or "Being from the approved political party shall set you free".

Let's apply that verse to the political debate. If I wanted to know THE Truth about John McCain or Sarah Palin, found it, and wrote an article about it, I would be called a "liberal", "Democratic loser", "Obama voter", or something else not fit to print. If I wanted to know THE Truth about Barack Obama or Joe Biden, found it, and wrote an article about it, I would be called a "Reich-winger", "Bible thumper", "Neocon", or something else no fit to print. Rather than speaking the truth about the candidates, queries into their qualifications are met with a chorus of "our candidate is best because our side is right".

There are still a great many voters out there who are undecided when it comes to the question of president. If any of us are going to know the best candidate and where that candidate stands on the issues that are most important to this country, then we must be able to find out THE Truth without having one side or the other claiming to be "right" or simply substituting partisan rhetoric for real answers to the questions.

The Truth. Would any of us even recognize it should it be exposed? The 2008 U.S. Presidential campaigns have been hurling accusations, lies, and half-truths at each other for so long that the Truth has been drowned in an ocean's worth of B.S. Even if one of were to don a Hazmat suit and respirator to filch out the Truth from the political cesspool, who is going to be willing to grab the bucket of hot soapy water and scrub brush to clean it off and make it presentable?

The Truth shall set you free. It's time to stop with the partisan rhetoric and just seek the Truth no matter where it takes us. That is the only hope our country--and maybe the rest of the world--has in November. The alternative is grave markers with "I told you so" etched upon them.

I'm only talking about Dem's who run for office. Wondering who's first in line

I'm just wondering if you could elaborate on "Democrats claim to give the reward 'to the people,' but you notice who the first 'people' in line to receive the reward?". Thanks!

I stand corrected

I should have checked the source for the quote. I stand corrected, Publius. I'm not above being wrong. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

The funny thing about the

The funny thing about the "truth" is...when people who write an article about it then pass unverified claims off as "fact." This has to do with your George Bush "quote" about the Constitution. In another similar article, you said that every story should be verified by three independent sources (the one you originally read and two others). But this quote was only "verified" by one person (the author of the article) who claims to have gotten the information from three nameless people. No date was used when referring to the meeting in question either, which makes it quite impossible to verify who attended it. And according to FactCheck.org (link below), the author of the piece has a history of fake sources and consequently, corrections and retractions. FactCheck.org So, why perpetuate an unverified claim and write about it as if it's "truth" - especially attached to a post where you discuss what truth is? *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

@BoomerBOmb|The 'Right' is Our Responsibility

The truth is the un-erased writing; the 'right' is constantly reinterpreted (even when it is written that something is 'right'). It's a matter of context: slavery is wrong and -always was wrong, IN TODAY'S CONTEXTS; but--in the contexts of ancient people--some were born higher and some were born lower. Call it evolution, call it exploratory education; in America, we merge whatever you call it into 'self-evident.' ... but Uncle MythMan still KNOWS you're more awesome than NFL Cheerleaders, yet needs to hear *your* comments on http://is.gd/2s8V http://is.gd/22wY http://is.gd/1fSs http://is.gd/1fRg http://is.gd/1fSe & http://is.gd/1fSj -- Click His Stamp to Discover!

One-Siders Are Such Hypocrites! But There's 'Power' on Either 1

We two-siders or fence-riders or whatever-they-call-us are seen as 'wishy-washy' or some kind of 'indefinite,' because you don't know where we're coming from and so you don't know what we'll take 'our reward' back to. Democrats claim to give the reward 'to the people,' but you notice who the first 'people' in line to receive the reward? Republicans claim they 'represent' us, but they don't effectively re-present their paychecks! Am-I/are-you suggesting a True Sided Party? The Party "Of Ourselves, For Ourselves, By ... Everybody-for-Ourselves"? Selfish, maybe; but we can't trust anybody if we can't trust 'Ourselves'! ... but Uncle MythMan still KNOWS you're more awesome than NFL Cheerleaders, yet needs to hear *your* comments on http://is.gd/2s8V http://is.gd/22wY http://is.gd/1fSs http://is.gd/1fRg http://is.gd/1fSe & http://is.gd/1fSj -- Click His Stamp to Discover!

The Constitution decides what is right

As antiquated a notion the Constitution has become, it is still the most important metric we have for deciding which candidate is best qualified to be president. It is most telling that George Bush called the Constitution that "goddamn piece of paper" and he is arguably the president who has done the most to take away the Constitutionally-protected rights and freedoms of the American people. The sad thing in this 2008 campaign is neither presidential candidate offers anything other than lip service to the Constitution and the rights of ordinary Americans. Yes, they talk about "change" but they may as well be talking about the devaluation of the dollar, which makes each dollar only a few pennies worth of change, for all of the application it has to the real world. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

There is no right

I kinda have to say, the truth is there is no "right" side when it comes to politics, only preffered choices depending on your personal views.
