What To Do With The Kids? 5 Ideas For Today...
posted August 2, 2008 - 4:34pmAhh yes, my favorite question. Well, being a mom of three wonderfully perfect little angels (yes, I'm being slightly sarcastic) I know how tough it can be to constantly come up with the answers. I'll help you get the ball rolling and throw a few suggestions your way. A lot of activities depend on age categories so I'll try to mix it up a bit.
This one sounds a bit like homework: List 10 reasons why you're glad to be an American. This can open up other possibilities: listen to some patriotic music, talk about or research ways of life in other parts of the world, think of ways you can volunteer to help out other people around the world or right here in the USA.
How about a field trip: Go to the Zoo. Make it into a project and plan an easy activity to go with it. Perhaps an animal "treasure hunt“. Check off the different animals as you find them. If you can't make it to the Zoo today (or just for fun afterwards) have your kids gather up all of their animal toys and make their own version of the Zoo.
This one's simple but often overlooked: Fly a kite. Too simple? Do a little simple research and learn how to make your own kite...then fly it!
More simple summer fun: Have a water balloon fight. Fill up those balloons and send the kiddies out in the in yard. It's up to you if you want to join in the fun. Let the kids do their part and clean up the mess. Maybe have a contest to see who can pick up the most broken balloons.
Kids love this one: Create your own slime. Mix one cup of corn starch with one cup of water (you can add extra starch to change the consistency). Then use your hands to blend it into a smooth texture. Add food coloring to create your favorite color of slime. Store it in a covered container and it will keep for several days.
Have fun!
