What were fuel costs when you started driving

With fuel costs on the rise I decided to visit with some co-workers of varying ages and find out what the gas prices where when the started driving. I went first and told them that when I started driving it was 79 cents a gallon. A guy a bit younger than myself said that it was 99 cents when he started, then 59 cents from another guy.
I elbowed the guy next to me, our most senior driver and asked him "How bout you Mikey, was it big open fields of oil, that you just scooped up?"
I'm glad I can run faster than him lol

Price of Gas 1991

I first started driving in 1991. I was 16 years old and working a minimum wage job (that was $4.25 an hour for you youngsters out there), 15 hours a week. How horrible it was for me on that first day I filled my car up. At $1.07 a gallon it cost me about $17.12 to fill up. Now wouldn't it be a Godsend if we could still fill up a gas tank for that amount? Nowadays the only tank I can fill up for that amount is my lawnmower. I got three gallons of gas for my lawnmower over the weekend and spent almost $13 just to mow my yard. How nuts is that?
