Basically, since the likelihood of the walking dead showing up anytime soon is small, zombie preparedness is another word for disaster preparedness and other forms of just being ready for anything. Zombie nuts are in to all kinds of ways to keep technology up and running and hack things.
Hackers have joined the zombie craze and have changed highway message signs to read things like "beware of zombies ahead", etc. It's all in fun but tampering with road signs could cost someone their life if a warning message is not displayed. Websites have been hacked by "black hat zombie hunters" who are just up to mischief. True zombie hunters or zombie preparedness freaks are just into survivalist methods to be used to get through whatever may happen. It is much cooler to say that you are jokingly preparing for a zombie invasion than an outbreak of avian flu. Zombie hunters believe in self sufficiency.
