Whats wrong with my poor Black Lab
posted July 25, 2009 - 1:30pmThis xombyte is more for me to blow off some steam. So let me tell you my poor puppys story. By the way, his name is "Usher" and that was the name he had when we rescued him. He is a rescued black lab that came from a farm in Kansas and was 1 of 13 pups in which only 5 were still alive to be rescued. This particular farm was close to a highway with big rigs constantly going by and most of the pups were killed. So we rescued this poor pup and brought him home. Well we had him for 1 week and we noticed he was sort of crying and did not want anyone going close to his mouth. He stopped eating, drinking and just wanted to lay down and nothing else. We took this poor dog to the Vet and they found a hole in the back of his jaw like a puncture and they said they they cut it open and cleaned it out for $600. dollars. Well the problem continued and got worse and took him back to vet where they took x-rays and saw no issues or splinters or anything, so he continued on his antibiotics but as soon as the antibiotics were gone the same problem would come right back. We decided to take him to another veternarian and when we pulled up he started bleeding profusely from his mouth. It was just pooring out and he was going into shock. So we ran him into the vet and when the Vet saw what was happening he said we need dogs in here fast for a blood transfusion. Later that night he went into surgery and they were able to pull out a very big piece of bone. I mean it was really big and thick and sharp edges. The vet said it looked like part of his jaw bone however xrays show that his jawbone is in tact. Unfortunately this was not the end, but the beginning of several trips back to the vet for more pieces of bone that were lodged in his mouth and preventing him from healing. This is all about 2000. dollars later for a pup we had for less than a month. We finally thought all was over when he seemed to get better finally (although he has a really crooked mouth now) but he really is a sweet dog. Well yesterday I saw he had a lump on the side of his face under his ear where his surgeries had been. I was so sad and bummed and out of money. This morning I found that this lump opened up and a piece of bone is sticking out. I think it just may be more bone trying to make its way out of his body. We are taking him to the vet for appt in just a little bit. I will post what happens later. I am so sad about this.
