What is happening to me? What is wrong with me?

What is happening to me? What is wrong with me?

I had a really interesting semester, which included very minimal procrastination and more free time. However, as I am nearing the end of the semester, I am just really exhausted, physically and mentally. I have been working on starting a ten page research paper for days, but I just started today. I have not gotten past the first page and I just keep getting stuck. I am not one who gets "Stuck." My writing runs smoothly without any dictation, however, now my brain refuses to allow my fingers to type that paper. I had no intentions of procrastinating this paper and intended to finish it long ago. But I found myself avoiding this paper or rather just giving up on it. It's not a difficult topic, but rather one I have found quite interesting: the Harlem Renaissance.

My eyes are blood shot and burning from waking up early, but I would say it is okay if I had actually accomplished something. On the contrary, all I have done is wake up early, lose a great deal of much needed sleep, spend hours browsing the internet and avoided doing my paper. What is wrong with me?!

I have about a ten days left before school finishes, yet I still have this paper, a final exam to study for, about two essays to write, two novels to read, and some minor things. Did I procrastinate? No, I don't think or wish to believe so. I know I did not procrastinate, I just had writers block when the semester neared its end. Do I pity myself, no, I don't. I just need to find the motivation to keep going and staying up all night won't cut it. So here I am trying to gain some motivation by writing a bit of a blog on xomba. I am still sleepy, but I'll try to work on that paper for another 30-45 minutes, if not I'll hit the sack. Any advice from your college days?

Thanks,
Sam

Plagirism

Plagiarism is a HUGE issue! I really don't worry about getting sued and whatnot, but it's more about getting kicked out of school and living with the knowledge that I plagiarized for the rest of my life. I think for me and a lot of other students it's more ethical stuff rather than legal. Free Webhosting Get cashback when shopping

@Life-is-sweet-taprial-RychardeManne--Plagiarism of Personality?

Plagiarism only concerns "law" as far as it concerns "money," and I can only see that happening if your school plans to publish- and sell a collection of the students' 'works.' I say 'works' sarcastically because a student's "papers" are for-the-most-part used to prove that the student understands a topic. If you copy someone else's work on a topic, the only bad thing is that you might not understand what the 'someone else' understood. Truly, they CAN sue you for copying the work ... just like they can sue you for NOT copying the work, free country ... ---Uncle MythMan (http://www.geocities.com/jmythh2k5) & the Xombies Echo the Universe & GET MONEY for Discussing the Wonderful World Above & the Beauty Around Us!

@ Taprial

Taprial, I have no doubt of the talent that Xomba writers have and can imagine them writing this paper within an hour or so. However, I would rather get an F than have someone else write my paper for me :) Free Webhosting Get cashback when shopping

Next time....

just put your assignment online, i can imagine lotsa' xomba users losing sleep over your assignment. With the kind of talent and experience we have on xomba any assignment on any subject would take nothing more than a jiffy. Bare Essentials

@Jdubhub and internal dialogue

Interesting Jdubhub, this is a different way of going about my work. Changing my internal dialogue might just do the job and I am definitely going to try doing that for the rest of the things I have to get done. Thanks a lot! I don't know why I don't put things I learn in psychology to use, I guess at times I just assume they don't apply to me. Free Webhosting Get cashback when shopping

@Rycharde and plagiarism

I don't know, but I stopped writing my drafts on paper a few semesters back, I sort of just found typing my draft easier because I can alter sentences/paragraphs with ease. "Search, surf, copy, past" definitely straight to plagiarism. If I find something I like, I usually paraphrase it on the spot. Thank you! I am almost done, I finished the paper, but I still have to do an annotated bibliography and proof read it a couple more times since it's a huge percentage of my grade. Change your internal dialogue

I understand where you are coming from because I know what it's like to have to juggle schedules and priorities while still having things that need to be done under deadline. From reading your article, your words tell me that you are focusing too much on what you don't want, which is why you are backing yourself into a corner time-wise. If I may humbly suggest, you ought to write out an affirmation or two so you can "re-program" your subconscious mind to work with you rather than against you. Something along the lines of "I always have time to get all my work done and I do so with enthusiasm and efficiency." You could tailor it to your specific needs, too. Just be careful not to use negatives, i.e. "I don't worry about getting everything done", because the Universe does not recognize negatives. In the case of the negative example, the energy you would get back would be "I worry about getting everything done". Looking back at my days in school, I wish I would have known how to change my internal dialogue to keep the focus on what I want. Hope this helps! JOIN XOMBA IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD!

I still haven't found a good

I still haven't found a good bit of software to organize thoughts. Seems easier with notes on bits of paper I can then move around. THEN I can type it up. Search, surf, copy, paste... that's what my college students used to do... ends up complete crap and lots of other people's voices. good luck... and yeah, disconnect the internet whilst you're writing. Perfection is not healthy

Simplelife, I can understand and see how this might benefit me. However, you can't begin to understand how hard I am on myself with failing. I don't stress myself over exams as I do with papers. When it comes to papers, I at times proof read my work 2-3 times when I am still less than half way through. I check the paragraphs I write over and over again to make sure they are all easy to transition from. I check the sentences in each paragraph carefully to make sure I didn't put one that didn't belong. Again, this is all before I even finish the paper. I didn't actually realized I was this obsessed with perfection until I wrote it right now. I definitely should give your advice a try because this would help me stay stress-free in regards to getting the paper perfect. Thank you very much! Free Webhosting Get cashback when shopping

Different habits each semester

Lol, Mamamia, it seems each semester I have a new habit. A few semesters back it was playing solitaire, then ebay, now it's facebook. Thanks for the advice and confidence :) Free Webhosting Get cashback when shopping
