Where NOT to Advertise Online
posted October 25, 2009 - 3:42pmAfter becoming incredibly frustrated with annoying "Noobs" using the comments area of my articles, especially on Suite101, for their own personal ad space I decided to write this article. Do I think it will make a difference? Certainly. These people are often just ignorant to internet etiquette. This article will be part of an ongoing series about internet marketing.
The DOs and DON'Ts of Internet Marketing
First, let's look at the dos and dont's of internet marketing and internet etiquette.
DON'T
- Use other people's posts to advertise your own service, product, web page or anything else! It's rude, ineffective, and people hate it. Not to mention its spam because it has NOTHING to do with the topic that is being discussed.
- Use the direct message feature on twitter to advertise to people.
- Randomly send people on social networking sites messages that are adverts. Period.
- Go into a forum and post an advert in someone else's thread, whether relevent or not.
- Randomly go through the services section of craigslist and send the posters spammy advert-type emails. They're looking for REAL business oppurtunities. They don't want any nonsense.
DO
- Use services such as Craigslist and Kijiji to post QUALITY and REAL ads.
- Add your business information to a forum signture and post RELEVANT comments in response to the topic that are NOT advertisements.
- Post tweets with links to ads or articles that can earn revenue. Alternate between personal tweets and posting links.
- Buy Facebook adspace
- Post your service or product through craigslist, kijiji, or any similar classifieds site.
