Which Fast Food Restaurant Has The Healthiest Hamburger

In my previous article I compared the French fries form 9 different fast food restaurants. Today I will take a look at the nutritional statistics of some of the more popular burgers.

I obtained the nutritional information directly from 8 different fast food establishments and made a chart on some popular burgers. These figures are with all the vegetables but without cheese. Here is what I found out on the calorie totals.

1. Carl’s Jr – big hamburger – 460

2. Dairy Queen – classic grillburger - 470

2. Wendys – single – 470

4. McDonalds – big mac – 540

5. Sonic – sonic burger – 552

6. Jack In The Box – jumbo jack – 578

7. Whataburger – Whataburger – 620

8. Burger King – whopper – 670

The Carl’s Jr big hamburger comes in first with Dairy Queen and Wendys close behind. Let’s take a look at the total fat content for the same burgers.

1. Carl’s Jr -17g

2. Dairy Queen -21g

2. Wendys – 21g

4. Sonic - 21.6g

5. McDonalds – 29g

6. Whataburger – 30g

7. Jack In The Box – 33g

8. Burger King – 40g

This was almost a carbon copy of the calorie chart. Carl’s Jr once again came in first. Let’s see how the saturated fat compares.

1. Carl’s Jr – 8g

1. Dairy Queen – 8g

1. Wendys – 8g

4. Sonic – 8.8g

5. McDonalds -10g

5. Whataburger – 10g

7. Burger King – 11g

8. Jack In The Box – 12g

There was not much different on this chart. The surprise was how poorly the jumbo jack performed. The final comparison will be on the sodium content.

1. Sonic – 666mg

2. Jack In The Box – 916mg

3. Wendys – 940mg

4. Dairy Queen – 950mg

5. Burger King – 1020mg

6. McDonalds – 1040mg

7. Carl’s Jr – 1090mg

8. Whataburger – 1262mg

Sonic scored extremely well on this comparison. I double checked with Sonic just to make sure that this number was correct. Jack In the Box made a good showing also. The whatburger seemed to be very high in sodium.

Who is the overall winner? It’s very difficult to pick a clear-cut winner. However, Carl’s Jr, Dairy Queen, and Wendys seem to be leading the pack. Next time I will compare another item off the menu and see what the numbers tell us.

I think you would love

I think you would love In'N'Out burgers and fries! So, I hope you get to the West Coast to try them. I really appreciate your gathering their statistics and am pleased they rate better overall! Thanks!!!!!

In N Out Burger

I have never been to In-N-Out burger, but I was able to get some statistics from them. Hamburger (no cheese) 390 calories | total fat 19g | saturated fat  5g | sodium 650mg. Overall their burger seems to be better than the others. I wish there was one by me so I could try it.

Great fact-finding compilation.

These are fascinating facts about burgers! And very useful!

I say, have you ever been to an In-N-Out burger joint? Of course, the locations are only in four states (California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona). I think In-N-Out joints have the best-tasting fast-food-- they do only burgers and fries, for which they use fresh potatoes cut right there in the store. I would love to know their statistics but I'm not in Calif. anymore!
