Who am I series/Metaphors the key to prosperity/ you are the salt of the earth:

Ye are the salt of the earth but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men (Matthew 5:10)
Salt is a very precious commodity and years ago it was a means by which wages were paid. Its value is of such that it preserves, protects and provides, three distinct characteristics that describe the providence of God. In looking at its value we can look at who we are according to the way our heavenly father see’s us and not by another person’s opinion or point of view, not even our own point of view for that matter.
Jesus asked the question to his Disciples in Matthew 16, who do men say that I the son of man am? Because it is in the nature of a person to want to know how others feel about them, but the Disciples answered, some say thou art Elias (Elisha), some say thou art Jeremiah, some say thou art John the Baptist, and some say thou art a prophet.
Everyone has an opinion, but a person must not allow the opinions of others to dictate who they really are. Jesus was not moved by the fact that he was placed in the “hall of fame” regarding the prophets, because “had he been“… he would have tried to smote the waters hither and thither just as Elisha did, and take on the characteristics of the others, but because he knew his value and who he was, he simply used his gifting talents and ability along with his anointing to walk on the water.
People who don’t know who they are may find themselves trying to live up to the opinions and expectation of others, and we can only be who God created us to be. Prosperity also begins with knowing who you are because until you do…you will not know your value. Life is full of cheerleaders on the sideline cheering for everyone else except themselves because of not seeing ones value.
When something is valuable it is not wasted, and people who don’t value who you are will waste your time, and if you are a waster of your own time …you will not reach the prosperity that God has for you because God works in times and seasons (Ecclesiastes 3)you are “more” valuable than that.
Someone is waiting on what you have to offer because you are someone’s answer. Jesus told the woman who’s daughter was demonized that it was not meet to take the children’s bread and give it to dogs, but she said but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters table, in essence she was saying your children (Israel) do not value you, and because of that
fact…they waste you, but I won’t waste you because I value you, just give me the crumbs because all of the same ingredients that are in the bread, are in the crumbs and because of her faith in Jesus, her daughter was healed that same hour. People who value you will receive what you have to offer in the form of your gifts talents and abilities.
Things happen quickly financially, relationally, spiritually and every other area of life concerning prosperity when there is no “wasted value”. By wasted value I mean things of no value that people spend time in. It is amazing how people spend most of their lives involved in things that are of no value to themselves or anyone else, but when a person recognizes their value… their decisions and time become focused on their destiny and purpose.
Jesus said I must work the works of him who sent me while its day, for the night cometh when no man can work (time), and relating to his purpose , he says for this purpose was the son of God manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus then asks his Disciples who do you say that I am? And Peter answers, thou art the Christ the son of the living God. Jesus responds flesh and blood hath not revealed this unto thee but my father which is in heaven, because flesh and blood cannot reveal who you and I are, only our heavenly father!
Salt is sprinkled, and where it is placed it becomes effective. Part of knowing who you are is knowing where you fit. Godly prosperity only comes when you and I are in the place that God wants us to be. 1 Kings 17 brings us into the life of Elijah the prophet and he was at the place where God tells him to go (Cherith) where he is fed by the ravens morning and evening and he drinks from the brook, but one day the brook dried up and the ravens stopped coming because God has now changed plans for where he is to be placed.
He tells Elijah to now go to Zarephath because he had commanded a widow woman to sustain him “there” (provision). The provision and prosperity of God is always where he sprinkles you. The salt does not complain about where it is sprinkled, but it just effects the area where it has been placed. If you are not effecting where you are…you may need to find out if you are where God want’s you to be. How do you know if you are effective? Because you are missed when you are not there, things are bland and unappealing.
Salt when it is applied to food is suppose to bring “good taste” but depending on how much is sprinkled…it may leave the food not tasting good! Many people have good taste…good taste in the clothes they wear, the cars they drive and even the church they attend, but when there is close relationship, one may find they do not taste good, and just like food that does not taste good, it is thrown away or separated from.
Jesus said if the salt has lost it’s savour (tastefulness) it is thenceforth good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under the foot of men, in other words when a person ceases to do what they have been created to do, they are of no use to God or anyone else for that matter. Many people have good taste, but because they have no character, they don’t taste good, people want to get away from them. Prosperity will not happen alone, but we need God and who God sends in the form of mentors and teachers and if one wants to stay connected to these people then one needs to be salt in it’s purest form!
