Who Invented Peanut Butter?

I'll start will a little background information on the peanut. The peanut was discovered in 950bc, by it's discoverers the crop traveled to Africa and Spain. In 1818 the first peanut commercial crop was grown in North Carolina and the in Virginia in 1840.

So who invented peanut butter? This question has many different answers to it from many different sources. Peanut has been invented and reinvented throughout many ages.

History suggests that the Ancient Incas ground peanuts into a paste. That in the 15th century Africans did the same and the Chinese would grind peanuts into sauces throughout centuries.

Some believe that Rose Davis from New York invented peanut butter in 1840. Her son, Ross traveled to Cuba where he saw a young girl grind peanut butter and then she spread it onto bread. Ross returned home and told his mum, Rose of what he saw and Rose went on to use and develop the method of making peanut butter.

Another story of the invention of peanut butter takes place in 1890 when an unknown physician from St Louis, looking after the elderly. He wanted a type of food that was full of protein yet easy to digest as his patients struggled to chew. In his workshop he began to grind peanuts and discovered the solution to his problem.

Some say George A. Bayle Jr. invented peanut butter. From my research i have found out that that the unknown Physician i mentioned above approached Bayle in the hope to encourage him to make and package this peanut paste he had discovered. Bayle went on to mechanize the process of grinding the peanuts and sold the paste by the barrel.

Most people will tell you that George Washington Carver invented the peanut butter. Carver was a peanut expert he is known to have made 300 uses from the peanut. Uses such as dyes, cosmetics and plastics, not just recipes. As regards to inventing peanut butter he didn't i found out, he produced a new formula/recipe of peanut butter. He make peanut butter very popular in the United States. As did John Harvey Kellogg when he began to promote health foods in the 1890s.

So who did invent the peanut butter? I think its up to, there are so many theories and nothing has been set in stone. I think it comes down to your own personal belief.
