Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish monk, mathmatician and astronomer. He lived in the 1500-1600s. He stated that the sun was the center of the universe. He also stated the Earth moves in a circular orbit around the sun. His book, On the Revolution of the Heavenly Spheres, describes his heliocentric theory. However, other scientists, Protestants and Catholics denounced him.
