Why is Alzheimers disease on the increase, and what does this mean to caregivers?
posted September 21, 2009 - 4:01pmWhy is Azheimer's disease on the rise?
This article creates concern because it clearly states that it is on the increase - an increase of 10% in 4 years, and that 1 person in every 11 will suffer from this disease or dimensia by the time they are 65 years old in Canada.
Beyond the obvious heart break, the article does look at the impact both financially in the form of care, and emotionally - particularly for caregivers and stresses that something has to be done.
With a potential for 1 in 11 people to be affected this means that a large proportion of us will become caregivers, as a direct result. This really is a tragically sad disease to see close up and it is not surprising that so many suffer from depression and other anxieties.
I thought it would be rarer to see this issue in 65 year old people.
The current 'young' generation are said to expect to live a shorter life than their parents, this is the first time this has happened, and its down to diet, I wonder if diet is also playing a role here.

Research is the key
Great find, Helen. +1. Wish we could get the same attention as H1N1 is getting. Think of the healthcare $$$ that could be saved if we could beat this heartless Killer.
