Why America is hated by most countries around the world

Most Americans are shocked at the level of hatred shown towards America by countries around the world. They just can't fathom why on earth people would hate their country so much. And its just not the Arabs and Muslims that seem to have a problem with America. Of late, it seems the Europeans too have joined the bandwagon. So, what is it about America that these countries hate? It certainly can't be that they hate the American culture. In fact, most countries around the world love the American pop culture, Hollywood, etc. So, it all boils down to American foreign policy and its actions around the world. Certainly, thats what these folks (including the Europeans) don't seem to like or agree with. Now, American foreign policy goes a long way back. But, it would be worthwhile to focus on American policy post 9/11 to illustrate how America is its own worst enemy when it comes to projecting a positive image of itself around the world.

We all know what an immense tragedy 9/11 was. It was the most outrageous terroristic action ever carried out. It was a cowardly and sick act that killed thousands of innocent Americans. There was no question that America had the right to strike back (most countries around the world agreed). So, it was that America launched the War on Terror on Afghanistan and sought to bring the perpetrators of 9/11 to book, Osama and Mullah Omar included. It was a worthy cause and most countries stood rock solid behind America and empathized with America.

So far, so good. But, of course, trust the American Administration to blow away all the goodwill. The Guantanamo Bay detention camp was the worst advertisement for the US. The shameful photographs of prisoners being abused there, broadcast around the world, undid any public relation gains that the US made since 9/11. People were tortured and the rest of the world saw the US as no different from the many dictatorships around the world that endorse and carry out torture as a preferred method during interrogations.

Of course, the Bush Administration wasn't done yet. Iraq was to come still. With the Afghanistan front not fully secured and without Osama or the Taliban being vanqished, the Bush Adm decided to wage war on Iraq on the basis of "credible intelligence." Saddam was bad (no one claims otherwise), but regime change isn't the preferred method of most countries around the world. So, it was that the US waged war and found no "weapons of mass destruction" - the reason the war was sought to be fought in the first place. As a consequence, scores of innocent Iraqis were killed and no strategic gains made. In fact, it ended up creating a laboratory for Al Qaeda to recruit more radicalized Muslim youth to fight the US. What a blunder!!! Cost the US so many millions in dollars to fight this war and what does the Bush Adm have to show for it? Nothing!!

Its no wonder then that most of the world hates the US. They see the US as the "big bully." They see the US as the "world's self-imposed policeman." The US is the most powerful country in the world and therefore it needs to use that power judiciously and sparingly (only when needed). Perhaps, Obama is the man who redeems the US image in the rest of the world. Perhaps, its McCain. Whoever it is, America deserves much better than what its got thus far in the form of the Bush Administration. America deserves to be looked upon by the rest of the world for its many positives, its democracy for one. America has a lot to offer the rest of the world. Perhaps, the world would look at America in a much more positive way with a new administration in Washington.

Good Lord!

Who spit in your cheerios? Could you maybe reel in the Westboro Baptist Church mentality? Just a tad? Something tells me that you know very little about what's really going on in Iraq. My ex-husband was stationed out there. Let me tell ya, no one is actually "winning" right now. And, it's not because those "tree-hugging hippie" liberals are "causing" our "great victory" to falter. Some of the people living in Iraq like us there, some do not. Not all of those who don't are confirmed terrorists. As for your claims to be "Christ-like", I see no evidence of that. Your words are over-flowing with hatred. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that a Christian need be fluffy and filled with rainbows and sunshine at every turn. But, I do see that the Bible speaks very clearly about not hating as you obviously do. You're passionate, and you're angry. Fine. There's nothing wrong with that, in and of itself. But, for the love of all that is holy! You speak of objective thinking, yet I haven't heard a single objective statement from you. You ask why jdubhub "is so subjective?" Pot meet Kettle. And, I know you hate to hear this. But, our founding fathers did not create a strictly Christian country. This is not a theocracy. So, no, a "filthy non-believer" is not a "traitor" by default. You got it vege. thanks

You got it vege. thanks

OK, you're forgiven, eggsovaries. For now.

Just don't mess up again, OK? ;)

Vegehead I just noticed the

Vegehead I just noticed the name. You crack me up. Awsome, first time I ever been called eggsovaries LOL. funny. I hear you.

Your picture makes me smile

Your picture makes me smile everytime I see it. That is an awesome picture and I am very glad you gave your kitty a great home. I love the picture and am sorry your pet is gone. I am sure you gave your kitty a fine life. I admire you for that. I love animals too very much. You are the best.

eggsovaries, take a rest, will ya?

My "kitten" in the shoe was 17 years old when I took that photo. Maya was a sweet-natured cat whom I rescued from being euthanized when she was 9, and she died about nine months ago. I still miss her a lot. If it makes you feel better about yourself to brainlessly diss liberals, fine, but keep my pets out of it and try at least to respect nonhuman animals. As for the rest of your fanatical rant, it's not even worth addressing, quite frankly.

Rebuke? You make me laugh.

Rebuke? You make me laugh. You mean your reasons for denial. What happens when Jesus comes back on the white horse? War time baby. The bible is very clear about time and places. To you this is irrelevant, You get the Gospel, believe in Jesus you will be saved. That love you are talking about is based on the person doing the love. That is why Jesus can understand us. He knows what we are capable of doing. That love is impersonal. As far as for me. Turning the other cheek does not mean I have to stand for the running of a muck. Sometimes turning the other cheek means to stand up to things that even have a chance of beating you. This is called genuine humility. The arrogance is not for you to be flattered by, it simply means that man will rely on their own intelligence. Why are you so subjective. This isn't only about you. Try being objective you might understand some things. Believe in Jesus. MM MMM Chicago Style Brats Christ like is the mind of Christ. Which is what our Founding Fathers meant when they wrote "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal." This meant equal opportunity to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The mind of Christ. Our Founding Fathers would call you and your like a traitor.

Eggsoveresy, religious zealotry is not a substitute for debate

The problem I have with your brand of Christian Fundamentalist religious zealotry is that it ignores the teachings of Christ and demands that the Bible be put aside for political expedience. You gleefully condone the MURDER of innocent civilians in Arab countries and you also hypocritically put Zionist (read: Jewish atheist) politicians in Israel before your own God and your own government. Any rebuking done by those of us who see through the charade that is politics is sniped at with your endless supply of outdated epithets: "Commie" "Liberal" "Gay-Lover" "Al Qaeda supporter" "God Hater" and whatever other canard your God's Club playbook lists in its What To Say When They Use Facts chapter. I use the expression God's Club derisively not because I dislike Christians (I don't) or Christianity (I support its original beliefs) or because I believe in anything that people like you would consider anti-God. I use that expression because you members of God's Club claim to be Christian, attend nominally Christian churches, have nominally Christian associates, but stop there. Christianity belongs to the world, not a bunch of self-centered egoists who preach hatred toward people who happen to have different ethnicities or have inconvenient geography to your brand of politics. Where does this hate you spew appear in the Scriptures as a commandment to proliferate? Where does it say that murdering innocent civilians with bullets, bombs, and landmines is cool? Where does it say that sowing radioactive munitions into the soil and poisoning the Earth is the right thing to do? Christian means Christ-like. I see nothing in your words or attitudes that would lead me to believe that you even know Him much less that He would know you. You don't have love in your heart. In a previous comment, you considered my rebuke to be "arrogance", which tells me you are projecting big-time. As I've said, you are neither new nor original. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Why was the no fly zone in

Why was the no fly zone in place. Uh??? To protect who? uhh? Who tried to assasinate Sadam uhh? Who did Sadam try to wipe out for this act of defiance? uhh? hmmm. Is there any al qaeda in Turkey uhh? Hmmm Could be. Wish you'd wise up. I give you now from Iran, what do you think about Syria.

You seem to have information others don't seem to

I never knew (honest to God) that Saddam had training camps for Al Qaeda in Iraq. So, where did you get that info from? What is public knowledge is that Saddam and Al Qaeda hated each other. Al Qaeda would have loved to get rid of Saddam. America just did that for Al Qaeda. Perhaps, you have forgotten that Saddam was "our man" for the most part of Saddam's regime. His regime was supported by the US. He was supplied arms and ammo by the US. The Taliban surge is a recent phenomenon - it wasn't always there. And you know why that is so. Coz the US has its our military dictator in Pakistan running the show (another Saddam?) The US can't seem to think that Musharraf can do wrong. They don't seem to think that the Pakistani intelligence agencies (that propped up the Taliban in the first place) could have dual loyalties. By all accounts, the Pakistanis are up to no good on the Afghan border. They have signed a "peace deal" with the Pakistan Taliban whilst the American troops are fighting a war with them. Are the US tacticians living in fool's paradise then? Can't they see Pakistan is no ally anymore. And what is the US doing about it? Nothing - perhaps coz Iraq is more high on the radar. The Taliban are having a field day. And no, the UN isn't in charge. The US is. Who are you kiddin - the US runs the show. My only regret, the billions spent in Iraq could've been used to demolish the terrorist infrastructure in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Coz, the last time I heard, the 9/11 attackers were trained in Afghanistan/Pakistan - NOT Iraq. So, talk about priorities. FYI, I am not an anti-war idealist. Mistakes were made - there is no shame in accepting mistakes and learning from them. Now that Iraq is a problem, it should be solved fully before the troops exit - no choice in that. But, my take is that mission Afghanistan should have been completed first. That country and Pakistan are the biggest threats to the US.
