Why are scientists tagging great white sharks?

The Monterey Bay Aqaurium www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/cr_whiteshark/whiteshark_ours.aspx brought a young femail white shark up from Malibu and put it on exhibit on August 26th. This is the fourth white shark exhibited at this west coast aquarium.
Great white sharks were found off the coast of Chatham in New England, the first week in September. The beaches were closed over Labor Day weekend in order to avoid human contact with the sharks. www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2009/09/third_great_whi.html. Sharks come to this area to hunt for the seals that live there. www.thebostonchannel.com/news/20747289/detail.html Biologists from the Massachutes Shark Research Program successfully tagged five white sharks so they can study the sharks' behavior.
