Why Breastfeeding is Good
posted May 28, 2008 - 12:51pmIn the modern world, the modern mother, like the father, is working and doesn't have much time for the kids. This is one reason why the modern woman chooses not to breastfeed her child. Other reasons include the fact that they don't perceive it to be feminine or sexy. This is not a good phenomena.
Breastfeeding is in fact beneficial, not only to the baby, but the mother as well. It is beneficial to the baby for a number of reasons:
- It prevents illness and allergy.
- It is sterile and at body temperature.
- It contains more vitamins and iron than substituents like cow milk.
It is also beneficial to the mother. Breastfeeding stimulates the release of a hormone called Oxytocin, which speeds up the involution of the uterus. In lay man's terms, this means that the woman's belly will get smaller, faster, which is what every woman wants. Breastfeeding also promotes the bond of attachment between the mother and baby.
With so many benefits, it seems strange that women do not want to breastfeed. Perhaps society needs to rethink its stance on this issue.
