Why I Do Not Honor God

Why I Do Not Honor God

I believe in a universal higher power, which I refer to as the spirit. I am human and as with most humans, must label to understand or to simplify, therefore to simply the all encompassing, the universal higher power, I use the words “the spirit”. Others may prefer the label of God, Jehovah, Yahweh, or energy.

The spirit is the teacher of right versus wrong. I believe the spirit directs humans by instilling emotions to alert us of our imperfections and to congratulate us on the balance of our spirit and the spirit.

Our parents, religions, educators, and friends teach us morals. The spirit, in conjunction with our selves, our personal spirit, confirms these morals with a feeling (emotion) of “rightness”. This emotion however, is not to be confused with a sense of righteousness, for that is pride and not a spiritual attribute, but an attribute of the ego.

The reason I do not refer to this power as God is because the name God is based on words written and translated by man and then selected and placed in a book by man. This book is called the Bible. According to the Bible, God tells us to, "Do as I say." We should only listen to Him, only obey His laws, worship no other but him, etc. and I think God is a hypocrite, at least the God I have read about and so many Christians thump about. According to His words, we are to believe that pride and ego are attributes of the devil, yet are not God’s laws signs of pride and ego of God, Himself? And where did the name God come from anyway?

I believe that as long as one practices the moral teachings of "Do onto others as you would wish them do onto you." that we are on the right path. It just may not be titled the same.

Joruus, I believe the invention of the Bible

is what was created to keep man in line, not necessarily God. God is just a word and is neither good nor evil, it is how people interpret and project the word that make it good or evil. That is another thing I question. People hear the word or the name God and instantly start reading and quoting from the Bible like the Bible is God. To me, they are two different things, not one and the same. God is the spirit and the Boble is man's attempt to use the spirit to control man. Thanks for the comment. Thank you Grimes Girl

I also enjoy hearing other peoples' thought and beliefs. It helps in teaching and learning tolerance. Something the world could use more of, in my opinion. More and more Spiritual

Yes Myth, This article is truly about being spiritual versus being Christian. It is hard for some Christians to grasp that someone can be spiritual and not believe in the Bible or the name God. I just don't believe in living my life with the Christian's "Chicken Little theory". "The sky is falling!" did they not finish the book? It was all a mistake and the world did not end nor did the sky fall! But, all the animals did support one another during this "crisis". MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Blessed Be it

So Mote it be, Harm none do as ye will. :) "To Each Their Own"

"To Each Their Own"

Even if there were a God....

Even if the fairy tale of god were true... he would not be fit to worship because his acts are pure evil in any civilized society. Human sacrifice, plagues, rape, incest, are all blessed by god in the bible, and that clearly shows that either the cattle sacrificing bronze age primitives invented god to keep people in line, or god is pure evil and deserves no honor.

But You Sense the Devil Everyday! @veghead--

Maybe not "Satan," but the very same spirit! As explained on this discussion of Nichiren's writings about the devils & obstacles, devils are self-enforced limitations. You think a devil everytime you remember something you can't do which you wish you could do. ---Give Your Opinion Too!, & Google MIGHT find some extra money for you like they do for My Latest Work!

Why I Am More-&-More Spiritual (Gnostic), Less-&-Less'Christian'

Even Jesus talked about 'not denying the Holy Spirit, even if you deny Jesus.' The Spirit forces me to deny Christ (~their~ Christ); they cling to their Christ instead of the one The Spirit sees and they thus deny me, and--as The Spirit sends me--they who deny me deny the One who sent me. ---Give Your Opinion Too!, & Google MIGHT find some extra money for you like they do for My Latest Work!

Richard.... I feel for you

as you are sealing your eternal fate. Give these passages Luke, Chapter 24 some thought. 19There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence. 27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

Galatian 5:22-23

See now those words make sense to me. There should be no laws on such matters of the heart. I choose the loving words and try to live by those rather than the do this or this will happen. Granted, sometimes I falter and get caught up in the emotions of the moment. Okay, maybe more than often than "sometimes", but I'm working on it. : ) I believe if you try to live with the the intent of good, you shouldn't have to worry so much about what could happen if you are "bad". In the spiritual realm of things. In society, it may be a different story. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html
