Why I Do Not Honor God

Why I Do Not Honor God

I believe in a universal higher power, which I refer to as the spirit. I am human and as with most humans, must label to understand or to simplify, therefore to simply the all encompassing, the universal higher power, I use the words “the spirit”. Others may prefer the label of God, Jehovah, Yahweh, or energy.

The spirit is the teacher of right versus wrong. I believe the spirit directs humans by instilling emotions to alert us of our imperfections and to congratulate us on the balance of our spirit and the spirit.

Our parents, religions, educators, and friends teach us morals. The spirit, in conjunction with our selves, our personal spirit, confirms these morals with a feeling (emotion) of “rightness”. This emotion however, is not to be confused with a sense of righteousness, for that is pride and not a spiritual attribute, but an attribute of the ego.

The reason I do not refer to this power as God is because the name God is based on words written and translated by man and then selected and placed in a book by man. This book is called the Bible. According to the Bible, God tells us to, "Do as I say." We should only listen to Him, only obey His laws, worship no other but him, etc. and I think God is a hypocrite, at least the God I have read about and so many Christians thump about. According to His words, we are to believe that pride and ego are attributes of the devil, yet are not God’s laws signs of pride and ego of God, Himself? And where did the name God come from anyway?

I believe that as long as one practices the moral teachings of "Do onto others as you would wish them do onto you." that we are on the right path. It just may not be titled the same.

You Have an Excellent Point MJ Dakota

I am sorry that Baptism or I should say Non-Baptism experience happened to you. So, if you haven't already, I would say to you: Sometime when you are taking a bath or at the river or lake, offer to him that experience. He knows your heart. I think that is one of the problems with us Christians is that we formulate so many principles, laws, regulations, ways of doing things, formulas, and systems, because we don't practice and get experienced at looking at peoples' hearts. We don't know how to recognize fruit, as the Bible puts it. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Gal 5:23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. I think we look at, 'if you believe what I believe then your ok and we can have fellowship. But if you don't believe what I believe then you are not of God, because if you are of God, then I may not be of God, because you have different beliefs than I do. I think a lot of us have gotten shallow and that is why you see so many actually evil Christian wolves, because we sheep are looking at other people’s belief system and not their fruit. I have seen God show up in a person's life and not reveal his name to that person, look at Abraham, and a lot of other people in the Old Testament especially before the law was instituted. God just showed up, and said basically I am God (which was the same term "el' or "elohym" (the plural of God) yet didn't reveal all his names to that person. Those came one by one over a long period of time. Plus, I think God does reveal the name 'Jah is Salvation' because he loves that person so much, and sees what could happen if he does. So, he hides his name to keep them from being trained by wolves in their area. Because there is a huge war that has been going on over the nature of El for thousands of years; for El was a term that was used for God and god. And the servants of God and god, have been fighting since even before 1Ki 18:16-40. Scripture use the term Baal in this section but Baal was also a dual terminology for Lord or Master. Plus there are no capitals in the Semitic Hebrew that I know of, so it can get confusing. So as for me, I wish you love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, from the fruit of the Spirit Thank you for posting that previous comment, I has gotten me to really evaluate and think. I'll have to be read to get crucified after this post by any religious people, but that is ok, for one of my motto's is "Na nana na nana! Me and Jesus are going to get in trouble! We are going to get in trouble! Na nana na nana" :) God bless, Wdzzz For more articles by this author click here

Yes tocasa,

"...to truly know God is a personal experience" And this is why I have difficulty with some of the Christian "teachings" because they preach the importance of how knowing God is a personal experience, yet then say that if you truly know God or are With God, then you must do this according to the Bible. At one time I was contemplating being Baptized, but wanted to do it without an audience, it was a personal choice for me and one I wanted to share personnally with God, not with a bunch of strangers. I was told I could not be baptized without an audience because I had to share my belief and proclaim it for all to see. I disagreed. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles!

Veg, I think you just nailed my thoughts

Although I do believe there is a higher power, I believe that we should not "use" the higher power or fear thereof as a reason to be moral and ethical with each other. Thanks for the comment. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles!

Good points Wdzzz

And I agree that I am worthy of Hell too. I also believe heaven and hell are found anywhere. In the past, present and future; in life and in death, it is all a perspective, a frame of mind. I like reading your take on things, I agree with most and listen to it all, but some just takes a bit more pondering before a conclusion can be made. Thank you for your comments and patience in your comments! I think what most people don't realize is that I am not saying I dont believe in God, I just don't honor the "word" God as some do. I do believe in a higher power, as I stated in the beginning, I just call it "the spirit". As for the Bible and the writing within, well let's just say, I ponder them. :) MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles!

I don't believe in Satan either, Wdzzz

except sometimes when I come across mean-spirited comments from some religious nutjob (not you), and I think, this person must be possessed by the devil! But seriously, to me, believing in all that mythology is akin to believing in the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus. I suspect that religion is a case of wishful thinking that grew out of fear of the unknown. And hey, there's a lot to be afraid of! It's perfectly understandable. I don't think the tainted peanut butter thing had to do with either God or Satan. It was a matter of mismanagement on the part of an unethical company, and whoever ate the stuff and got sick or died was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I believe we are responsible for our own lives (although sh*t happens out of the blue, as with the peanut butter poisoning, as with Natasha Richardson, and there's nothing much we can do about The Fickle Finger of Fate). But I don't think "God", or "Satan" for that matter, have anything to do with the good, the bad, and the ugly of life. And although I have often enjoyed toying with the ideas of karma and reincarnation, the mechanics of that particular Eastern belief system seem highly suspect too. BTW, I for one wouldn't want to be stuck in utopia (or Paradise). Perfection is boring! But there's a middle path between utopia and hell that's a lot more interesting, and we have it right here on Planet Earth. Unfortunately, the world nowadays is slipping and sliding more towards the hell side, but it'll tilt the other way eventually. That's just my take on it, as an agnostic. You're certainly entitled to yours.

I agree about the religious zealots

We find that is so true even in the Bible. Wasn't it the religious rulers or zealots of the day that crucified Jesus. I think what happens to a lot of us Christians is that we try to hard to figure out principles that we miss actually caring for people; we tend to value principles over people. As far as I know I think what a lot of things people blame God for is actually are the actions of, as the Bible puts it, the god of this world namely the devil. Now I am not trying to blame everything on him, because we all have free choice. For a lot of our own misery is caused by people doing harmful things to other people. Just look at the misery that was caused by the food industry sending out tainted peanut butter. Was that God's fault? What about if I decide out of my own free will to attack someone and cause them pain. Was this God'd fault of mine? I think we all desire to live in utopia back to the garden of eden, but we don't realize we are actually living in a war torn battlefield of cosmic forces fighting with legal principles for the control of men and women. One actually wants good for them and one hates them with malice. I mean look at our movies today and the epic stories of long ago. Are they getting glimpses of what is going on is the spiritual realm. I personally know there is a spiritual realm, I've seen and heard way too much. I know there are forces that are hidden all around us. Every religion that I know of or can think of talks about them. I think we all have a sense of true justice in us. So, let's find out who the actual murder is, and put blame where blame is do, if us limited mortal can. If what people call God is the murder then let's blame him, but if it is someone else let's condemn them. I think it is like a huge chess game, but I think to access the true blame of who is cheating it might be helpful if we knew the rules to the game. I think alot of the rules are all around us. Plus, I think that sometimes God may take a person from this life and the Bible says he does, but is this the ultimate tragety, or is He moving a suffering person out of the prison and suffeing of this life into the garden and paradise of eden; where they are finally and once and for all, healed and restored to wholeness forever. Just thoughts from one traveler in this dark and weary world to another... For more articles by this author click here

the older I get, the less I think there might be a God

or higher power, or universal spirit, or whatever you want to call it. Which doesn't mean that you can't make your own life ethical and moral and sensible, and, in fact, in the absence of "God" I would have to say that it behooves us all to practice good ethics, just so we can all get along fairly peacefully while we're on the planet. Unfortunately, many don't do that, and often it's the religious zealots who are the worst culprits. Ironic but true.

To know God

My mistake he goes by different names but we are all a product of our enviroment, the new testament came to fulfil not to take away. Do not get me wrong to truly know God is a personal experience

I was thinking MJ

I go into the cell phone place and I get a choice between two contracts. I really don’t understand the contracts and so I just sign the first one. The next month I get the bill and I see it is very high. I call in and they say, "Oh under this contract, there are huge penalties for unauthorized services, plus you went over you minutes. And you signed the contract so you’re stuck for the next 1500 years." I think, "Oh I hate these guys, they suckered me, and are so mean." But, I realize I did sign it, and they are dealing with me according to the contract I signed. So, after 1500 years, the contract ends. So, I go back in and look at their other options. I see there is a second option and I think I like it. I read this one real close and decide to sign it. I find it is more expensive per month but nothing like the first contract that limited my options. So, I get my bill and I pay way less per month because I don't have all the extra charges. Then in the next month's bill, I get an invite to the company picnic. I am astonished and go. I find that these people aren't so bad and I kind of like this new contract. I think, 'Wow these people don't act the same as when I had the Old Covenant with them, even the boss seems different. So, one day I go to the boss because I have a direct line to him now under this New Covenant and say, "Ummm... I think you may not be keeping some of your obligations." And as we talk he informs me that I am confusing the Two Covenants and his obligations are not the same under the New Covenant I have with Him. He also mentions that a lot of his customers and even his closest family members make this mistake. But, that covenant is still available if I want to sign it. I think back and say, "Oh, no thank you I stick with this one." The End. So, Israel signed a covenant that had huge penalties for breaking that covenant, but there where ways of forgiving those penalties through sacrifices. Now, the gentiles where offered a contract that basically says, as you treat others I will treat you. If you forgive, I will forgive. If you love others, I will show my great love to you. If you judge, you will be judged. For it says, Give and it will be given to you press down and overflowing will I pour into your lap. It's almost like multiplication. As we give it is multiplied to us. Now, a lot of Christians use this for wealth and self centered reasons, but I think these are shallow application. Some Christians try to control others by fear of hell, and so they are away trying to control their lives and the lives of others because they are running scared from the fires of hell that they feel are closing in on them fast. I tend to figure that I am worthy of hell and so my life is forfeit and so that frees me to just love others with out that fear; weird paradox. But anyway these are just thoughts from one struggling searcher for actual truth to another… For more articles by this author click here

To know God

As in all religions God is everywhere and does not only exist in heaven, To comprehend the size of God should be way beyond our scope,if God exists he should exist within us,as size should be relative Its like an ant trying to climb the highest mountain,"very possible" to us as human beings seeing is believing. But how can we truly know a being who has a mind that has no beginning and no end. We do create our own universe through choice. But are we living or are we dead.To truly know life and understand it or are we just on a the biggest chess board known to man played by "Gods"
