Why I Give My Support to Russia Now
posted August 29, 2008 - 3:56pmThis is something that I've had to consider for a while now, but which came to the forefront of my mind earlier this month. I am an American, yes, I served in the American military in defense of the American Constitution and Republic, yes. Does my support of Russia mean that I am turning my back on America? No.
Let me explain. Ever since George W. Bush took office in January 2001, the Neoconservatives have controlled foreign policy, which is to say they used the American military as a bludgeon to convert independent governments into puppet states of the U.S. government. The manipulated events of 9/11, which clearly did not happen as the government "investigations" would have us believe, turned into illegal U.S. invasions of two sovereign countries within two years, Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003. Even when the causus belli were found to be blatant lies (Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan and Saddam Hussein linked to 9/11 and Al Qaeda in Iraq), Bush kept the troops there, but under different cover stories.
The supporters of the war, mostly Republicans, claimed that Bush had international support and each action was sanctioned by the United Nations, of which the United States is a member of the UN Security Council. The trouble with that since-discredited belief is that UNSC 1441 did not authorize the United States or anyone to invade Iraq (had it, there would have not been a need for the U.S. or anyone to get a second Resolution passed) nor would have a laughable coalition have been put together--the so-called Coalition of the Unwilling--in order to give credibility to the cover story.
The trouble with the UN's actions is not that it didn't authorize the invasion, which it didn't, but that it lacked the means to stop the United States military at the behest of Bush from invading Iraq. With the antiquated mechanisms of the United Nations, especially the WWII victors-led Security Council, there is nothing to stop one member from doing what it wants. As the UN lacks its own policing troops, the world could only watch in horror as Bush illegally invaded Iraq in 2003. Of course, there were no Weapons of Mass Destruction, Saddam Hussein had no ties to Al Qaeda or Osama bin Laden, and Iraq posed no threat to other countries in any manner recognized by international law.
In the aftermath of Bush's hubris, over a million Iraqis and Afghans are dead, millions more are homeless and displaced, and the United States is on the verge of economic collapse precipitated by deficit spending in the three trillion dollar range that should have never been fought in the first place. The United States and, really, the world are not any safer for Bush's actions now than in 2001 and the U.S. has destroyed all post-9/11 goodwill, even going so far as to make permanent enemies of a good portion of the world.
Now, without just cause of provocation, Bush and our "ally" Israel want to bomb Iran. Iran has no nuclear weapons and has not invaded anyone in centuries. The National Intelligence Estimate last November said "no nuclear weapons in Iran". Iranian President Ahemijad said "no nuclear weapons in Iran". The international body, the International Atomic Energy Agency, said "no nuclear weapons in Iran". Still, in Bush's Neoconservative mind and against all logic to the contrary, Bush is assembling the largest naval armada in the Persian Gulf since 2003 to bomb Iran presumably with nuclear weapons to do what? To punish Iran for being geographically inconvenient to the Neocons ambitions to control the world's oil reserves?
The United States government is the biggest threat to world peace and the constant pursuit of unipolar American hegemony has threatened to take the world into its nuclear holocaust end. I don't take any pride or satisfaction in knowing the country I risked my life to defend or the Constitution that I know and love have been destroyed by forces from within the very borders of my country.
The reason I am championing Russia now is that there is a chance that balance will be restored to the world and the American bully in Washington will have to think twice about its actions. Look at the situation in South Ossetia, for example. The U.S. and Israel-backed Georgian government invaded an autonomous region and committed genocide in order to bring secessionists back under government control. It should be made clear that these same secessionists in South Ossetia voted long ago to remain with Russia. A peacekeeping mission by the OSCE and manned by Russian, Georgian, and South Ossetian peacekeepers. Georgia murdered the Russian peacekeepers during the night and used artillery and aerial bombardment to destroy the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali, which has no military targets or value. Russia fiercely counterattacked and destroyed Georgia's ability to continue to make war against innocent civilians.
Western opinion, led by the controlled American press, was quick to condemn Russia and even went so far as to blame Russia for the whole mess. Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvilli whined to the world that his country was in shambles, while Bush rattled his saber impotently at Russian PM Vladimir Putin and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. There is not a thing that Bush can do about the situation in Georgia and the world knows it.
Yes, Bush signed a deal with Poland to station ABM missile launchers and will likely station the attendant radar system in the Czech Republic. The official cover story for the ABM system was that the system was being placed in Poland to protect against "Iranian" ICBMs which Iran not only doesn't have but also lacks nuclear warheads, but the world is learning that the real reason is to give the U.S. military first-strike nuclear capability against Russia. There is no link to nuclear terrorism for the project. The U.S. just made Poland a nuclear target.
The result of Bush's gross miscalculation is American hegemony aka Pax Americana aka the New World Order is dead. NATO is likely permanently crippled because Russia provides 40% of Western Europe's energy reserves and is unlikely to continue to poke Bush's stick at the Russian Bear. Only George Bush continues to hurl empty words at Russia.
When the United States government was spinning its web of lies and deceit to commit the illegal invasion of Iraq back in 2002-3, Vladimir Putin was a political neophyte and lacked the experience to challenge Bush and the American Neocons over Iraq. But, now, things are different. Bush has overextended the U.S. military and American credibility throughout the world. Russia has the means and has proven the willingness to say "Nyet!" to the Neocons. Had Putin been able to stand up to Bush in 2002 or 2003, there wouldn't have been any illegal invasion of Iraq, the inspectors would have been able to prove there were no WMD's in Iraq and no Al Qaeda, tens of thousands of Americans and over a million Iraqis would still be alive today, and we would have balance in the world.
The reason I am supporting Russia is because Russia represents the balance that the world lacked under the unipolar power of just the U.S. acting as the lone bully. With Russia back in the picture, the U.S. government can choose to have another strong ally combating "terror" in the Middle East and the American people can finally begin to reign in the Neocons currently controlling our government. Without access to the oil reserves controlled by Russia, the U.S. will have to develop either its own reserves or find alternative energy sources to power the country, like clean modern nuclear plants, solar, and wind.
I am for world peace and I am tired of the Neoconservative agenda of endless wars of aggression, the phony war on terror, the declared war on American citizens, and the daily B.S. flying out of Washington to justify evil. If it takes supporting Russia to keep the U.S. government honest, then I'm all for it.
