Why ignore Dravid and Ganguly for Champions Trophy?
posted July 9, 2008 - 3:06amJayasuriya at the age of 38 is a perfect embodiment of experience with youthful energy. He is active on the field, and his approach is attacking.Single-handedly,he led Sri Lanka to victory in the Asia Cup finals at Karachi. His example shows that neglecting experience can be suicidal.India have ignored Ganguly and Dravid for Champions Cup 50 overs game to be played in Pakistan in September,2008.The pretext is that you have to build up a youthful team for the next world cup.Ganguly's heart knows that he can be still be a match-winner in one-dayers.His recent statistics proves this point.Ganguly can easily fit as either Sehwag or Gambhir are bound to fail in the long run.It is said that his fielding is sloppy. But there are other players whose fielding is equally bad.Similarly,Dravid is a slow and steady grafter as far as run-getting is concerned. He can rotate the strike, and build up the innings. He has a wonderful one-day record. His fielding is superb. If Warne at the age of 40 can contribute his best in cricket as seen in IPL tournament, then why not Dravid,or Ganguly? Both are below 40.The Indian selectors may do a big harm to Indian cricket in the long run if they continue ignoring Dravid,or Ganguly. One of them in sheer desperation may announce his retirement from one day games. That will be a sad day for Indian cricket. For my posts visit www.xomba.com/user/sanjay For joining xomba visit www.xomba.com/referral/77777/b6a
