Why is the Republican Party Endorsing Rock Star Bono and His Marxism?

This article is about the Republican National Committee endorsing the proposal by U2 lead singer Bono to spend $30 billion in U.S. taxes to eliminate global poverty and why the Republican party would support such a socialist approach to the problem of poverty.

The article asks: "How can it be that the Republican Party, which once advocated free enterprise, limited government and individual liberty, could fall for such a wealth redistribution scheme, and at the request of an avowed Marxist like Bono? The two should have nothing in common, what so ever. Or don't they?"

Let Bono Give $30 Billion Dollars, Leave Taxpayers Out of It

The article itself says "Incredibly, the RNC announced that it is endorsing the poverty eradication program of rock star Bono" and also says "the Republican National Committee took steps to endorse Irish rock star Bono's proposal..." The Republican National Committee is endorsing Bono's socialism regarding fighting "global poverty". Therefore, I believe the headline is accurate. As to Americans giving food, etc., it is one thing for Americans to do it VOLUNTARILY. It is another thing for the United States government to take money from Americans forcibly through taxation and then give it to foreign governments. (Many of whom are corrupt). It's actually theft because the U.S. Constitution does not authorize this. Furthermore, as the article indicates, unless the root causes of poverty, which are man-made, are addressed, nothing will be accomplished by simply giving more and more U.S. taxpayer dollars to wherever Bono says. I also don't think attempting to curry favor through foreign aid actually works out. It's like a rich uncle constantly giving the poor relation a handout-eventually the poor relation comes to resent it because it hurts their pride.

Not endorsing Bono

I'm sure Bono has a lot of ideas. Just because some politicians are supporting ONE of his ideas doesn't mean they are 'endorsing Bono,' as your headline suggests. Relieving povery can be a very cost-effective way of not only saving lives but also getting people in distant lands to have a more favorable impression of the U.S. (such as when starving people get a bag of food that says 'from the American people' on it). I'd think it better to have the U.S. winning favor with such people, rather than al Quaeda or Hamas or some other such group doing it (terrorist groups are well known for currying favor with poor people by providing security, building schoools, etc. etc.)
