Why Wenger's youth policy struggle?
posted January 7, 2009 - 3:27amSince Wenger has arrived at Arsenal FC, his main concern was to built a team composed mostly with young players.
All started with Patrick Viera who was playing for Milan AC back in 1996-97, a young french player, pure midfilder, he was rated as one of the best prospect
and was under 21 years old, then players started to arrive such as Thierry Henry, and more significantly Fabregas, Van Persie, Walcott, Ramsey, Clichy to quote some and most of them not being older than 21-22 years old.
Back then, these players used to be mixed with experienced players such Dennis bergkamp, Tony Adams, Fredrick Ljundberg or Robert Pires and the mixture was really good, so good that they went unbeaten for 49 games in Premierleague and nearly 65 games all competitions but then experienced players started to leave Arsenal, retired, transfered... the bunch of young players was left alone playing games that sometimes is too demanding for them.
Today, Arsenal have not won any silverware for the past 4 years and still being in top 4 in UK premiership, fans are concerned about Arsene's policy on young players.
Is this going to end?
Critics starts to come thru all medias and fans start thinking that it is about time that the old mixture was much better than leaving a bunch of kids playing in what is considered the best football league in the world, indeed at some times, they struggle.
The good news is that Arsenal Board is now giving cash to Wenger to get experienced well known players, 120 millions Euros is the amount of money that wenger can spend on players but he is going to spend cash like mad? I really don't think so.
Even though some players are on Wenger's list, I am in fear that it's too late to get a trophy this season.
In hope...
regards
