Birds are the most animals. We all enjoy seeing them. Well all have seen a peacock. It has beautiful colored feathers.
Small children love parrot.
We enjoy listening to the chirping of birds in the morning sweet songs of cuckoo attract every body.
An important thing about birds is that they have wings. Most of them can fly.
Birds can fly in the air. They can stay in the air for a long time. Let us see what makes a bird to fly. A bird has very light body.
A bird’s body consists of head, trunk, wings, legs and tail. All these parts are very light.
The body of the bird is made of a strong framework of bones. These bones are allowed of a strong frame work of bones. These bones are hollow and field with air. This makes them light but strong.
A bird has a boat shaped body. This shape helps it to float in the air easily.
A bird has wings in place of arms. These wings have feathers whish help it to fly.
A bird also has strong muscles which move beak wings up and down. Theses muscles attach the wings to the breast bone. These are called flight muscles. The tail of bird acts like the rudder of a boat. It helps the bird to change its direction during flight.
A bird’s body is covered with feathers. The have different colors in different birds. There two types of feathers.
Some feathers cover the body and keep it warm. These are called down feathers.
Some feathers are long and flat. They remain attached to the wings and the tail. They help the bird to fly and are called flight feather.
Tail feathers help the bird to change its direction during the flight.
During flight, the wings perform two types of movements-
Upstroke: - when the wings move upwards, the movement of the wings is called upstroke movement.
Down stroke: - when the wings move downwards, the movement of the wings is called down stroke movement.
Some birds like pigeon and crow fly over long distance. Some birds like cock and then fly short distance. They usually walk. Some Birds like eagle, vulture and kite fly at great heights.
