Will Oprah Winfrey Stick to Her Vegan Diet?

Will Oprah Winfrey Stick to Her Vegan Diet?

points

The talk show diva has wound up her 21-day cleansing fast that excluded all animal products, among other things. In her last blog entry she talks about missing chardonnay but not much else in those three weeks. And she's developed an ethical attitude towards eating:

"Eating more consciously now feels like a way of being. I actually think about how my food got to my plate . . . Doesn't mean I'm committed to veganism but I am thinking about what I eat and why. And from that I can never turn back."

We all know that whatever Oprah wants, Oprah gets, so I hope she sticks to it and urges her millions of fans to turn to plant-based eating.

Think About What You Eat

The world would be a much better place if everyone thought about what they ate and what impact their choices have on the environment.

a MUCH better place

That's why I'm pleased that someone of Oprah's caliber and clout is doing something so positive. I just hope it catches on.

Discipline is not easy

But then, that's the whole point, isn't it?

Willpower

All it takes is willpower. Let's see if that happens.

willpower II

I use to have great willpower only eating fresh veggies, fruits, and fish, and raw nuts, I don't know what happen.

It's not so much willpower, for me anyway

I'm one of those people who could never stay on a diet for more than three weeks. I had no self-discipline. I would get bored, start fantasizing about all the foods that were forbidden, and before I knew it, there went the diet. But when I became vegan, it was for a reason bigger than personal vanity or even health: it was to help, and show solidarity with, exploited animals. And that, I believe, is why, eight years later, I'm still a vegan and it's not a daily struggle at all.

awesome

Veghead that is truly awesome you have a higher purpose for what you do. I know some vegans choose that lifestyle for a healthier way of eating, which is fine, but your reason really goes far beyond dietary reasons. Maybe one day I will be able to join that lifestyle, It really does disgust me how animals are treated. Especially hearing about it firsthand from my brother who was a truck driver, and saw what they do to some of the farm animals. He was so outraged he can't even talk about it.

not so awesome

Oprah is about the age I was when I finally decided to follow my conscience and adopt a plant-based diet. I found pretty late in life that when you base your eating on personal ethics you have more peace of mind, so I'm really getting back as much than I put into it.
