Claw machines can give some epic returns (50 cents for a pink platypus stuffed animal? That is like a 100x return!)...
...But too often are epic failures.
You see, claw machines are not designed to be fair. Like many other carnival/fair attractions, they are heavily interested in taking your money. As you can see demonstrated in the video below, each claw machine has two adjustable dials inside. One varies the claw's grip, while the other varies the "winning interval." Yes, they are designed to "pay out" after a certain number of failures (of course, depending on the skill of the user). This may indeed seem cheap, but you can beat the machine!
So how to get that yellow flamingo that you have wanted for 40 seconds of your life? As you will see in the video, the first step is careful observation. It is not likely that you will be able to open the machine and see what the payout interval is, but you can watch. Note when somebody wins, and how many attempts until somebody wins again. That is the interval. Now wait the noted number of times, and you play when the machine is ready to payout. Granted that you counted well and that you are relatively skilled, you should have a decent shot to get what you wish.

hermit crab post?? It's like you both are working together to corner the claw market. It's sad but true that my husband, not my kids, gets this look in his eye and has to win the mangy-looking winnie-the-pooh or the flamingo...

A bit confused
Sounds like a good idea, but I am a bit confused (I have never used a blank tag before)...I didn't use any special formatting aside from just copy and pasting the URL. Am I supposed to just put that somewhere next to the URL or what?

Anyways, I chucked at the claw machine being the offspring of the vending machine and an arcade game. It seems true, with a little bit of slot machine stuck in there somewhere!
