women's hemlines - style Or freedom?

Women's hemlines reflect the freedom in society during those times. Throughout history women's hemlines have gone up and down. When the consensus of society is conservative women's hemlines are longer.

During the nineteen sixties, society experienced the freedom revolution. The hemlines rose to the occasion. Skirts and dresses became so short not much was left to the imagination. The sexual revolution was definitely in swing.

The next decade showed a diversity in hemlines as women coincided them with their current feelings of the day. Sometimes they felt compelled to be free and other times and situations called for them to be conservative. The most noticeable thing about hemlines and presenting themselves to others was that after many years of being told how to dress, they had a choice and could express themselves with different hemline lengths.

I believe as women age they become more conservative in their styles. They may wear longer hemlines to send the message that they are maturing and are committed to other causes besides sex. she can still resort to a playful, flirty short hemline to go out at night, but during daylight hours it might be best to represent your control of your sexuality by wearing a longer hemline.

In the professional world women dress for power and this calls for conservative styling. Longer hemlines and slimming styles with broader shoulders draw the eye upward and give attention to a woman's face. This gives her equal status in the business world. Her bosses and coworkers have more of a tendency to listen to what she's saying because their eyes are on her face and mind and not on her hemline.
