At 6650 kilometres long, the Nile is the longest river in the world. The Nile River has been entirely the source of water for civilization of Egypt since the ancient times. The main tributaries to the Nile are the White Nile and Blue Nile. The White Nile originates from the Great Lakes region of east and central Africa. The Blue Nile originates from Lake Tana in Ethiopia and carry with it lots of soil erosion which turns out to be very fertile for the Egyptians. The Blue Nile and the White Nile meet in Sudan near Khartoum.

After Khartoum, the Nile flow through the desert and in to Egypt where maximum use of the Nile waters occurs. In Egypt, the Nile is the source of life to Aswan, one of the driest inhabited places on planet earth.
