World Gets Its First Ever Gay Prime Minister

The first government collapse of the global economic crisis is about to yield the world's first openly-gay leader. Johanna Sigurdardottir, a former air hostess, is expected to be sworn in as Iceland's Prime Minister by the end of the week.

Her moment in the international spotlight comes at the most horrendous moment in her nation's recent history. As the global meltdown began, the collapse of Iceland's grossly over-leveraged economy was followed smartly by the implosion of its banks and currency. Now its government has gone the same way, the first to succumb to the backwash from the crisis.

How do we know this is the first gay head of state? Somebody research the sexual orientation of all past and present leaders? Were they all honest? Anyway, good for her!

You've been everywhere!! :-)

You've been everywhere!! :-) from the arctic to the tropics. Yes I'm sure the Icelandic papers wonder what all the fuss is about in the foreign press. Never been there, just way too cold... I felt cold reading Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow (great writing). Join Xomba Here

Iceland and Openly Gay..

I don't think they really care about gay or straight..I think it's all about keeping warm! I was there a lifetime ago the people were friendly and intelligent. The ladies were gorgeous and it seemed that they did not limit their options when it came to sex, even many of the guys I met seemed 'gayish' but everyone I met there was nice and a lot of fun! I was young, they party ALL the time and NOT self conscious at all!..It's not surprising that they elected an openly gay PM. I don't think it's an issue with them. I doubt the Rekjavik headlines had 'Openly Gay' anywhere. It is a bad time for them as they have been hit hard in the global economic crisis so she sure does have some hard work ahead. She is the longest serving Member of Parliament with something like a 73% approval rating. Click here to find out how you can get paid to post items like this. It's free and easy to join.
