Writing for the Money: Defending Her Honor
posted August 7, 2008 - 11:05amI've been all over the Internet, preaching against 'making money on the `net!'
"How can you do such a thing," people might ask, "if you expect to 'write for money' on the `net?" In truth, 'making' and 'doing things for' are two different (though slightly similar-) actions.
Imagine if I were writing for a power (persistence, attraction, genius, etc.)—I would be describing all the wonderful feelings the power gives me, placing that power in a high place for the memory-span of the reader.
'Money' is the greatest power of the world. You might think 'the greatest power of the world' is "love" or "God" or "tradition" or "thoughts," and that's fine—if one of those things gets you your means-of-living.
If I go to the store, I can't leave with food-in-hand unless I give up some money–no matter how much I love the checkout-girl, no matter how Holy I Am, no matter who my ancestors were, no matter what kind of genius I am.
But I here give 'money' that high place—just beneath God. When I speak of 'money,' I speak of the entire Capitalist-system. It irritates me that people believe they are 'making' money from programs that pay out of the profits of people who steal money by falsely convincing the people that "clicking" or "surfing" the particular sites is what makes money (when money is actually made by the work people do to make the products/services available to the potential buyers surfing).
That's not why Capitalism uses money; Capitalism uses money to represent honest work/production. When you claim that you 'make' money with dishonest work, you cast down the name of money–putting it lower on your list than your septic-tank! (which is funny, because your actions continue to place yourself on equal footing to your money ... placing you beneath your septic-tank as well)
It's Your Life-Support System: Get It Up to Sea-Level at-Least!
I–for one–am several meters above my septic-tank (steadily rising as I gain more-and-more friends and/or -money). But my money is not-so-distantly connected to your money.
Only together can we keep money from losing her honor! How will you help?
