Writing - "ingenious" versus "ingenuous"
posted September 19, 2007 - 4:04am"ingenious" versus "ingenuous"
"Ingenious" describes something that is so clever and spectacular that it might have been created by a "genius."
For example: "This ingenious solution has saved us a million dollars last year."
"Ingenuous," on the other hand, means something straight forward, innocent, lacking in sophistication or worldliness.
For example: "His ingenuous remark impressed her for its absolute lack of any pretension."
