Writing Tips - How to Make Your Writing Stand Out

Advice is something that comes a dime a dozen, so it is important that the seeker takes it all in and then decide what is best for him. Writing tips are the same and there is no one thing that works for all, everyone needs to find his/her own niche and strong points and maximize returns on that.

Having said that, there are still some things which need to be kept in mind while writing. Read on...

Title is the face and irrespective of what people might say about, "Don't go by looks" and the "cover of the books", those things are precisely what initially attract one to a person or a book. While writing, the title is the face or the cover of your writing, make it interesting if you want to launch a thousand ships or get a number of clicks.

Who needs Another Shakespeare?  I don't and I am sure this world has enough of Shakespeare already to have another one writing just like him. What I mean is, don't copy styles. Develop your own and that is what will make you and your writing unique. Moreover it will be difficult for others to copy your style since you are still at the stage where libraries are not stuffed with your creative work. Shakespeare, well I am certain there are enough people trying to copy his style to achieve literary immortality. Do you really want to be another brick in that wall?

Imitation may be the best form of flattery but it is usually called Plagiarism. One point to remember is that even though you may not be trying,  at times your subconcious cheats you and you end up writing something you read somewhere. Be careful of that and just remember what happened with Kaavya Vishwanathan and her How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life.

Remember the Skirt. At the cost of sounding cliched I would still repeat this, make your writing like the Skirt, Long enough to cover all the essentials and short enough to attract and maintain interest. Very few genuine readers exist in the world who would pick up a 5000 word article to read while checking their email or browsing the net. Remember that.

Language There are times you can pass off your mistakes in spelling, grammar and punctuation as a fashion statement, but do it too many times and people will know that you were sleeping in your English class. No one is perfect and no one needs to be. However if writing and the subsequent readership is what makes the blood flow in your veins, try to improve and learn. A good story by itself is not enough for selling it.

Write from the Heart Well don't rush for a surgery straightaway. I only mean that if you want the flow in your writing, which you have probably envied in some other writers, you have to write from your heart. That is when, your own feelings, emotions and opinons will be reflected genuinely. Most readers are actually  looking for your story and not someone else's.

Humility Be grateful when people read your articles or comment on them. Make sure you respond positively and show them your gratitude. Never ever let a few accolades make you assume that you are the God's gift to the literary world.

Rome was not built in a day It takes time for your writing to improve and for the readership to grow. Perseverence is the key. Keep writing and you will be there.

That's about it. If you follow these basic rules, your readership should go up but also remember writing is  continuous process and you have to keep in with times and keep upgrading your skills. Hope this helped.

Writing Tips!

Your article pretty much says it all.  I began writing by using my own story telling style and learned that I have much the same style of someone that I had never heard of at the time.  I can't remember his name just now, but he wrote--"I am One of You Forever".  I bought two of his books to keep for myself and one to give as a gift after I was told that and borrowing the first one to read.  I love his writing and well I like my own too. LOL

I hope that you will check me out; although, I don't normally push myself like some folks do.  That above is the most self promotion that I have ever done I think.
