WWJD ? (John as in Wayne)
posted October 28, 2006 - 12:59pmWell I certainly do not want to offend any Christians with my spin on the WWJD slogan. What Would Jesus Do? I am Christian as well and enjoy the slogan and the important reminder it sends out. My intention here is to have a little fun and maybe also send out a reminder or two of what and how we got to be who we are today. The great American people. So with a twist on WWJD, I'll ask, What Would John Do? Wayne that is.
Now I'm sure everyone knows who John Wayne was. Even the dummy's who Jay walk on the Leno show who regularly show their brilliance on pertinent historical facts. You know, Like who is buried in Grants Tomb? And they go "Duh". Well John Wayne is considered by many people as one of the greatest Americans who ever lived. An actor? Really? Yes, even Presidents past and more recent pay homage to the Duke. You see, what John Wayne represented, was the American spirit. The strength, the determination. When asked if he would quit in his classic "The Searchers", Duke answered, " huh, that'll be the day"! Buddy Holly even wrote a hit based on the spirit exuded by the Duke.
Yes it was all image. He did it on the screen and his conservative politics were well known as well. His image was so strong and people identified with his spirit so much that image became reality. He represented a strength, a feeling of the American people. To many abroad, friends and enemies alike, John Wayne WAS America. Thats when other countries knew who they could depend on or who they'd have to deal with as an advesary. Short and sweet, thats when America was respected, thats when we were feared as well. Yes, we are still feared but who do they look at now and say "thats America"? Bagdad Sean Penn? Puleeeze!
Yes, John Wayne had his haters. For a while it was open season on the Duke. Especialy when he openly supported the Viet Nam War. But that was Duke. Fight the enemy now, debate it all later. He even made a wonderful film to honor the men who fought that war. The Green Berets. Right or wrong, Duke was an American first. Never Apologize, it was a sign of weakness. No, he never went to war himself. He did'nt have to. John Wayne did more damage to foreign enemies over the years than a squadron of B-52s. Then there was the "Indian" thing. Duke wasted more Native Americans on film than there are cheeries on a tree and he suddenly became politicaly incorrect. He was only portraying a violent past that again, right or wrong, liberals would not even be here to bitch but for the efforts of the very type man that John Wayne portrayed.
It's that apologist thing again, it's like a cancer that has ripped this nation apart and weakened us. Suddenly we are always wrong. Publius just wrote a piece explaining the irony of how liberals quote "survival of the fittest" as their evoloutionary doctrine. Yet they criticize Christopher Columbus and John Wayne for his portrayls of men of that era. Without this determination and pioneer spirit the liberals would not even be here today to voice their nitpickin criticisms. None of us would. Sure, there are many regrets about our past, especialy regarding Native Americans and Slavery but how did this develop into this new "Religion" where we are now ashamed to be Americans?
The cancer is spread so badly that now we apologise first, debate and maybe fight later, maybe. Just the opposite of John Waynes America. Pick one way of thought or another but at least with the Duke you get to fight. You get a chance to determine your destiny, You get a chance to survive as an idea, as a great people. The great American People. The other camp I'm afraid would no sooner either lay down and surrender or turn our security over to United Nation police. Thats right, Blue helmets patrolling a neighborhood near you. Coming soon! It sounds like a trailer to a bad horror movie but see the likes of John Kerry. He would still be begging the French and Kofi Annan for permission to hit Afghanastan. And Kerry came close. Who's next? Hillary? Obama?
WWJD, He would probably say in that famous drawl of his " Well hell, lets take care of the enemy first and then we'll talk about it"
