www.Gmail.com Login | Google Mail Signup Page | Join Gmail Free
posted June 28, 2009 - 1:22amUnderstanding gmail
Gmail is now the third most popular web based email service, behind Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail. The gmail login can be reached through a number of different URLs which Google redirects to the login page. Among them are mail.google.com , google.com/mail and www.gmail.com. All will send you to the login page for gmail.
If you do not have an account it is easy to join Google Mail at this Signup Page. Once you have a Gmail account you can use it to access a wide variety of Google services like Google Docs and Google chat, sometimes referred to as gmail chat (they are the same). You use your gmail address as the id for all the google services. Technically, this is not really required; you can use any valid email account as your google login to access most google services. It's very easy to think that Google services required a gmail address, but this is not the case.
What You Will Need
Creating a gmail account is quite straightforward. To set up gmail accounts you only need enter your first name, last name, and desired gmail login name. Hit the "check availability" button. If your desired gmail login name is taken, google will suggest alternatives in the usual fashion, by appending numbers to the gmail login you requested. Don't like a login name with numbers? Maybe you have a nickname from childhood or school that isn't in use. You can keep entering your desired gmail login name and hitting the check availability button until you have a winner.
About Passwords
The new trend in passwords is to avoid anything resembling a proper name, a dictionary word or other recognizable sequence of characters. Instead, think of a phrase that you use, or can remember, and take the first letter of each word for the password. For example, take the phrase "Xomba is an excellent place to publish my writings", which converts to the password Xiaeptpmw. No one will guess this kind of a password.
Should You Enable Web History?
Web History promises to offer you more relevant search results and a more personalized experience. It will be stored on Google's servers – most likely forever. Google claims that you can remove items from your Web History. You can remove items, and you won't see them in your Web History any more. Some skeptics believe that your history will still be on a server somewhere.
Email Clients
Gmail is not a web interface only; you can access it from desktop clients like Outlook and Thunderbird. Set up your gmail account for either gmail imap or gmail pop3. Just use the instructions on the Gmail Help Page for configuring other mail clients.
Mobile Gmail
Once your gmail account is set up and active, you can access it from any supported smartphone, including Blackberry (still the leader in market share, especially for business), iPhone, and Windows Mobile.
