Home Depot vs. Canadian Tire

Last week, my co-workers were joking about how the staff at Canadian Tire scatter whenever they are shopping in the store and that getting assistance there is pretty much non-existent.  We had a good chuckle over it.  Yesterday I was shopping in Home Depot in Midland, Ontario, looking down the many aisles and a sales representative approached me and asked if I needed help!  I was very pleased with this service as this young man not only told me where the merchandise could be found but took me to them.  It was the exact opposite of my co-worker's experience at Canadian Tire.  Thanks for the service, it is much appreciated!

Going to the "toy shop"

We were victims of theives recently and needed to replace a ladder. I stopped by the fairly new Home Depot in Covington TN on the way home from a doctor's appointment in Memphis to get one. I require the assistance of a walker for ambulations and needed help in finding this ladder. Then I found there were two price stickers for the same ladder. The young man who helped me took care of this unusual situation with dispatch. To my suprise, the lower price was the correct one. This young man took extra care to load and tie down securely this ladder in the back end of my truck. My thanks to Mr. Tim Potter for going above and beyond. As my husband's and my anniversary is next week, this was his suprise present. Sigh, I'm too old, as he, for him to climb up it to get me out of the second floor window and wisk me away for a romantic anniversary getaway using the brand-new Home Depot extension ladder.

Elimination of Cashiers for Self Checkout

I will stop shopping at Home Depot pretty soon, because the Tower Road and U.S. 441 stores are now down to very few cashiers during slow times and not many more during maximum activity. The store is gradually switching over to machine checkout positions, where I have to read in the bar codes myself and can use only a credit card to pay. No more cash. I suppose some people prefer this method, as it may be a bit quicker for them. But I hate it and will shop completely at Ace Hardware and private lumber outlets, if there are any left, to get some personal service and Southern charm. I prefer humans to do the checkout, even though it reduces the bottom line for the corporation. Stop giving your CEO's huge retirement packages and keep the cashiers and floor people. I note fewer and fewer employees on the floor to answer questions. Just how much money do the stockholders and the CEO's have to make???
