X Games 14 -- Moto X Best Trick Finals -- Electric Doom Takes Gold
posted August 1, 2008 - 1:43amX Games 14 began last night, and as usual the Moto X Best Trick was the big event to watch. It did not disappoint and I'm here to give you the big highlights of the evening.
Tricks started off big and early with Scott Murray going for the Travis Pastrana double back flip, I believe twice, and missing the landing both times. He was not, however, seriously injured. Another, more catastrophic failure, was Jim DeChamp going for a front flip. This would have been the first time that trick was performed at the X Games. Interestingly, he had had the ramp moved closer to him for this jump, and he ended up over clearing the landing ramp. As he realized this, he bailed off the bike and injured his back. He did not ride again last night. Also, Jim DeChamp is supposed to be Travis Pastrana's co-pilot for the X Games Rally Car Racing. No word yet on if he will still be able to drive with Pastrana.
The biggest story of the night is the man who took home the gold, Kyle Loza, who pulled a brand new move to X Games competition, the Electric Doom. He takes home the gold despite driving off the track and into the medical crew after landing his jump. To clarify, he did complete the jump and did have control and stability, and did, in fact ride out of the jump, which is why the judges granted him the 94.40 points. The trick is a back flip of your body but not the bike. It's hard to explain, so I suggest youtubing the video if you missed it.
The silver medalist, Jeremy Lusk pulled a Double Grab Backflip with extreme extension in his second run, netting him 92.80 points.
The bronze medalist, Todd Potter, did a Ruler Flip (backfliping while coming completely off the bike only holding onto the handlebars and extending your body straight out) netting him 90.00 even.
