X Games 14 -- Moto X Speed and Style Finals -- Day 3

Day 3 of X Games finals started out early today with the Moto X Speed and Style competition. This was the first time this competition was at X Games and it is, as the name suggests, a combination of speed and style. The competition is a race between two riders who race for the majority of the track and then split up for one portion. While one rider does a freestyle portion, the other rider does a speed section, and then on the second lap they alternate.

The racing started off dirty with Jeremy Stenbarg taking out his rival in a corner on the second lap. He moved on to the second round, despite having dislocated his thumb six times already since he's been at X Games this year.

Racing favorite Travis Pastrana had amazing tricks (two backflips) but blew his chances by falling jumping over a triple in the speed section. His challanger Renner moved on to the next round

Nothing too important happened in the second round, however Johnson and Renner progressed on to finals, where they battled it out to the end. Johnson ended up taking the gold winning the race by 4.5 seconds, and double seat grabbing over the trick section.
