Xbox
360 repairs are expansive and frustrating while the console is sent to
be mended. Are there alternative Xbox 360 repairs? Why does the console
malfunction in the first place?
There's not much worse than
playing your favourite Xbox 360 game, only to find you can't carry on
as your console has cooked itself. Your Xbox 360 has just inherited the
infamous 'red ring of death' major malfunction. It's time to look for
some Xbox 360 repairs.
The red ring of death as you probably
know, equals those 3 red quarter-circular lights which form a 3/4 ring
around the Xbox 360's power button when it malfunctions.
Why does
this happen? What should you do before you look for Xbox 360 repairs?
Can you fix your Xbox 360 yourself? Where to find Xbox 360 repairs.
Something
you need to know before proceeding further - Breaching apart your Xbox
360 will void the manufacturers warranty. When looking for Xbox 360
repairs, you may want to bear this in mind and try to avoid it.
If
you have already been inside of your Xbox or the warranty has expired,
then there's nothing to worry about. Otherwise, give this some careful
thought before you carry on.
So Why does the dreaded red ring of death occur?
Basically
Microsoft decided to rush the Xbox 360 to market in order to get a head
start over Sony and Nintendo. This resulted in launching hardware full
of bugs and bad design. These bugs can either act alone or together in
turn shutting your 360 down.
so what are these causes?
1. Xbox 360 easily overheats.
The
360's design has numerous high-powered components that share a small
space. These high-powered components are giving off an enormous amount
of heat. Fans, heat sinks and vents in the machine are used to rid of
this heat created. Since there is not much cooling capacity in reserve,
the Xbox easily overheats if the required airflow into the Xbox 360
gets even partially. The red ring of death happens when these design
defects occur because of the rising heat levels in the Xbox 360.
2. Xbox 360 has brittle solder.
To
avoid using lead in products used by children, Microsoft decided to
make the Xbox 360 with lead free solder. Lead free solder is generally
more brittle. Making matters worse, the incorrect type of lead free
solder was used by Microsoft, one that gets really brittle with heat
exposure over long periods. If you stress this brittle solder, tiny
hair-line cracks develop. The cracks can obstruct the flow of
electrical current and also result in a weak solder joint which then
easily break.
3. Xbox 360 heat-sink causes motherboard to flex.
The
X Clamp has a very bad design as it results in the clamping force being
very uneven. The part has a plastic spacer at its middle which
concentrates excessive pressure on the Xbox motherboard at one small
spot. This pressure gets more intense when the CPU and GPU also get hot
which then causes the motherboard to flex. The lead free solder joints
which are brittle get stressed by the flexing motion of the Consoles
motherboard. With enough repetition of this stress and heat the solder
joints break.
4. Xbox 360 heat sink has foil attached.
On
some Xbox 360's, Microsoft didn't remove some foil found on the heat
sink. Many "red ring of death" malfunctions have been attributed to
this. The thermal compound must be reapplied if you decide to remove
the foil.
5. Insufficient Manufacturing - Low Soldering Process.
The
consoles solder was processed at too low a temperature. When lead-free
solder is under heated, the resulting solder joint is too full of
defects and voids. These weak joints do not last very long just under
normal situations. When including the other of the 360's faults as
above, you will have the ideal situation for failure.
6. The Graphics Chip Creates Too Much Heat.
Instead
of going to an experienced manufacturer for the 360 graphics chip
design (ASIC registered vendor), Microsoft instead designed the
graphics chip in-house. This saved many millions of dollars but in turn
made a poor quality GPU that over heats.
GPU is inefficient as it dissipates too much waste heat. A major problem of Xbox 360 repairs.
The problem dovetails in with the poor cooling of the system in the console.
The
good news is that you do not need to send your console away for repair.
If you did it would cost a lot of money to do so and you would be
without your console for many weeks in the best instance. There is a
product on the Internet that will help you get Xbox 360 repairs done
without opening the console and voiding the warranty. Whether the
problem is the red ring of death or a different error be sure you check
all of the options before shipping i for repair as there is a much
cheaper and easier solutions for your Xbox 360 repairs job.
Need an easy fix for your Xbox 360 repairs? We can help you without opening the console, voiding the warranty, or sending it for repair. Do it yourself in under an hour.
