Xomba Blog: Expose Yourself
posted May 7, 2009 - 8:06amHi Everyone,
Last night a friend emailed me claiming that Xomba got a mention in the latest issue (May 09) of Glamour magazine.
You can find us on pg. 236 in a caption about painting stripes on a room makeover. The author suggests the reader search "paint stripes" at xomba com.
If you perform this search on Xomba the first Xombyte that comes up is How To Paint Stripes on Walls. A wonderful article posted almost 2 years ago with over 6,000 reads.
You can find the article on Google search as well just search for paint stripes.
The moral of this story is that the possibilities of exposure on Xomba is limitless. Several months ago one of our headlines was featured on a episode of Dr. Phil.
Freelance writers and producers scour the internet looking for quality content to showcase. However, this doesn't mean you should sit back and wait for them to find you.
Expose yourself. Well at least expose your work to the world. (We'd prefer if you did that by keeping your clothes on.)
When you post a Xombyte on Xomba try to make it your goal to post a link to it on 3 other websites, forums, Google Groups, Twitter, etc.
Let me give you an example and then I'll spend a few minutes talking about Twitter.
Example one.
You've just written an article about surf fishing in Florida in May. You've highlighted the average type of fish a person will predominantly catch and which bait works best.
You could contact the author of a surf fishing blog and tell him/her about your article and give them permission to tell their readers about it.
Or you can drop it in an appropriate comment on that blog about surf fishing. (Just keep in mind no one likes spam.)
Maybe you should write the journalist of your local paper who often covers fishing in your area and tell her/him your article may be of interest to her/him.
You can also find Google groups or forums online about fishing in Florida and share the article with them. No ones likes a spammer. It might be best to join the forum prior to completing the article and introduce yourself. Not to mention, forums and Google Groups are a great place to start research on your article.
Finally, you need to have joined Myspace, Facebook and especially Twitter by now.
I say especially Twitter because it is a marketing powerhouse. If you are concentrating on writing articles about fishing in Florida then you should have a Twitter account that specifically deals with Fishing in Florida or Fishing in general.
You can get followers by going to search.twitter.com and searching for people tweeting about fishing in Florida. Target people by their interest. Then when you post your tweet about your article it instantly is seen by your followers.
We're planning a new Twitter how to guide soon, but in the meantime read the following Newbie guide to Twitter and The Ultimate Guide for Everything Twitter.
Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork and more teamwork.
So your goal is to promote your Xombytes in 3 places, but we also want you to share a Xombyte you love with 1 person or place.
If you read an article on Xomba and you love it then share it. You can simply use the "Email This Page" found at the bottom of the article or post it to a group or website. Maybe the article pertains to a Xombyte you are writing. If that's the case you should include a link to it in your own Xombyte. This is not, I repeat, this is not a competition. Keep helping each other out. The Xomba community is a huge success and you guys have done a great job. If you promote an article then drop a comment telling them so or send them a private message.
One last thing, VOTE! That little plus sign with the points in the top right corner of all Xombytes and Xomblurbs is how you vote on articles you like or find interesting. We don't want you to feel you must love something to vote on it. Loosen up and if you read something interesting then click the plus sign.
Ok, that's your 3 goals.
- Promote your Xombytes in 3 places or people.
- Promote other authors Xombytes that you love to at least 1 other person or place.
- Vote for articles you find interesting.
Being listed in Glamour or any major publication is a big deal. Exposure like that can lead to major reads and possibly more subscribers.
The paint stripes article was posted 2 years ago, but is still getting reads and drawing interest. Keep that in mind.
Later this week we'll share the story of a Xomba user who has made around $3,000 his first year on Xomba.
Good luck and take care,
Nick
