Xomba Blog | Frankie Says Relax

Hi Everyone,

Sometimes I feel like a broken record when I say that we have new articles on the front page, but today you really should check the new Xombytes out.

Man's Greatest Inventions

You Know You’re Pushing 40 When…

Best & Worst Moments Of The Beijing Olympics

Our contest, Xomba Is Green With Envy, is coming to a close Sunday night. Be sure to get your last minute entries in. Looks like we have quite a bit of reading to do next week.
Check out contests section for more details.

Jeremy informs me he is quite disappointed in the recent personal attacks and flames going in the comment section.

While we welcome you guys to critique and ridicule each others opinions we will not allow personal attacks. If you want to beat each other up then take it to email. It has gotten to the point that reading anything political or religious gives me a migraine. We encourage you to argue about MCcain Vs. Obama, but don't take it to a personal level.

Unfortunately, I am losing faith that we all can remain civil.

To learn that some of you feel we are being one-sided is absolutely preposterous and hurtful.

You need to realize that Jeremy and I spend most of our time chasing after the annoying Watch (popular TV show here) blurbs to have to babysit a few members.

We all get hot and angry over comments, but heed this last warning. Get it under control or do we need to be so childish to dish out 10 day suspensions?

An adult time out, if you will.

I surely, hope not.

To those of you who have been flagging more and more we whole-heartedly thank you!!!

Please keep it up.

Monday is a holiday here in the states, so new articles will be posted Tuesday morning.

We have banners coming. We're undergoing final edits on them now. You'll soon be able to post banners with your referral code all over the internet. I'm sure webmasters everywhere will be rejoicing!

A perfect system includes etiquette

The system as it is now is perfect. It is called freedom of speech and xombies like to use it to the utmost. :) Some of us just need a little bit of charm school and we'll be fine. In the military I was given an etiquette book to read. It was very fat and about a thousand pages long. To this day I regret the fact I did not read it and only acted like I did. I feel I missed out on a part of the world that has polish. A morning on the boardwalk in San Diego Sarah Palin under an ethics investigation is a joke. Eggsovresy

Commenting

I agree, Lisa. It would be unfair to let comments be left on some posts but not others. If someone were post a controversial article that they know will attract a lot of heat, but decide to make it 'no comments,' that wouldn't seem fair. The current system isn't perfect, but it works pretty well (in my opinion) and would work better if people would accept that others are going to have different viewpoints on hot topics like religion, politics, and movies ;-) .

i think we should all just learn to deal with it

censoring in any way (outside of the xomba and adsense guidelines) is wrong. there is no need or reason for personal attacks, especially if we are all writers. if you feel you cannot respond without an attack skip it. if a subject bothers you, skip it. it's a choice.

Caption Contest

Caption Contests can be fun as long as the photos chosen are interesting.

Allow Comments

Perhaps giving the author a choice of 'Allow Comments' or not when posting could cut down on some of the conflict. If you don't want to hear what others have to say, you can just post without allowing comments. Personally, I decided early on just to ignore anyone that irritates me in some way shape or form, and that has worked to keep my ire in check. I also agree with, I think it was, Idle who stated that if you totally ignore someone, you might miss something good. (I have to admit that even I have plussed up a post or two from some people I normally ignore..I just usually choose not to leave a comment good, bad or otherwise.) Should Aardvarks be allowed internet access? What it means for the global economy.

Editing comments

Yes, I forgot Mama, comments can't be edited if someone has replied to them. Now excuse me, I'm off for a midnight snack (there's a big anthill just around the corner).

accept comment

maybe an option should be there whether one wants to accept comments or not. I have thought such features redundant elsewhere, but now am not sure. i dont think one can edit one's comments after someone has replied to it. and editing after a reply would make the reply...kinda one by aadvaark! Aardvark

Methinks you've tipped your hand..I've always had my suspicions..Even have some notes here.."Idlewild may be an aardvark"
