Xomba Blog | Frankie Says Relax

Hi Everyone,

Sometimes I feel like a broken record when I say that we have new articles on the front page, but today you really should check the new Xombytes out.

Man's Greatest Inventions

You Know You’re Pushing 40 When…

Best & Worst Moments Of The Beijing Olympics

Our contest, Xomba Is Green With Envy, is coming to a close Sunday night. Be sure to get your last minute entries in. Looks like we have quite a bit of reading to do next week.
Check out contests section for more details.

Jeremy informs me he is quite disappointed in the recent personal attacks and flames going in the comment section.

While we welcome you guys to critique and ridicule each others opinions we will not allow personal attacks. If you want to beat each other up then take it to email. It has gotten to the point that reading anything political or religious gives me a migraine. We encourage you to argue about MCcain Vs. Obama, but don't take it to a personal level.

Unfortunately, I am losing faith that we all can remain civil.

To learn that some of you feel we are being one-sided is absolutely preposterous and hurtful.

You need to realize that Jeremy and I spend most of our time chasing after the annoying Watch (popular TV show here) blurbs to have to babysit a few members.

We all get hot and angry over comments, but heed this last warning. Get it under control or do we need to be so childish to dish out 10 day suspensions?

An adult time out, if you will.

I surely, hope not.

To those of you who have been flagging more and more we whole-heartedly thank you!!!

Please keep it up.

Monday is a holiday here in the states, so new articles will be posted Tuesday morning.

We have banners coming. We're undergoing final edits on them now. You'll soon be able to post banners with your referral code all over the internet. I'm sure webmasters everywhere will be rejoicing!

Thanks For Apologizing

Lauren sent me a private message and apologized. All is forgiven. The point being she had no idea who I was and her comment was bad timing. She's seems to have a knack for writing and hopefully, you guys will look beyond yesterday and accept her in the community.

Right Again Taprial

PMS or feeling ill should not be an excuse to attack another person.

WRAWK...personal attack...WRAWK

I take the cake. LOL... I kill me. woohooo. Eggsovresy

Mood status

Great idea! LIke the ones MySpace has... you can be ecstatic, depressed, flirty, etc. based on the icon you use.

Idle

Maybe we can have a mood status icon attached with the comments. That way we can ignore the rantings of people under PMS or those feeling under the weather. Bare Essentials

Anger

Taprial, you have once again hit the nail on the head (but not in an angry way, or course). If I am angry, hostile, or not fully caffeinated, I stay away from posting comments online. It's too easy to say something that may cause others harm or aggravation, or make oneself look foolish. PMS, etc. are absolutely no excuse in my opinion. If this person felt she was out of sorts (physically or mentally) it might have been better for her to stay away from the keyboard altogether. As for full moons, when one comes around I usually just go out on my fire escape and wail like a banshee until I feel that primitive lupus blood coursing through my veins.

PMS, Full moon and Sic(k)ness

PMS, full moon and sickness hardly qualify as excuses for an assault, verbal or otherwise. I am certain that we are all nice people, but some of us sometimes sub-consciously take umbrage under the safety and anonymity provided by the internet. Negativity always inflenced the perpetrator the most. If we remember that maybe we all can be better persons. Assault of any kind is an act of extreme cowardice or nonconviction in one's own beliefs. If you get angry bookmark this link to learn why you should not http://www.xomba.com/anger_management_2 Bare Essentials

Workspace

For those of us who have been here long enough to remember "My Workspace", I believe that will be a Godsend when it returns. Instead of having to sift through the "Recent Comments" and hope that what we want to see is still there, we can find our last comment, link directly to the comment thread in question, and read responses to it. It does get a little frustrating to have to remember the exact name of the Xombyte or Xomblurb to hunt for it in "Subscribed Threads" in my profile or to sift through 50 thread subscription updates in my e-mail inbox. I do it because I love the website, but I do miss the Workspace. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Comments

I wasn't really suggesting that Xomba do anything to curb the abusive comments... there are far too many comments on this Web site and too few staff members to watch every little thing that goes on. I think one thing that would help would be a message board where people can engage in ongoing debates about hot topics without hijacking anyone's xombyte, or having the discussion veer into lengthy diatribes on issues that are only somewhat related to the topic of the original post.

Yeah

And Nick of all people. He is the nicest guy around. Abmox should be made a virtual bodyguard. To protect us from all those name calling you know whats.
