Xomba Blog | Frankie Says Relax

Hi Everyone,

Sometimes I feel like a broken record when I say that we have new articles on the front page, but today you really should check the new Xombytes out.

Man's Greatest Inventions

You Know You’re Pushing 40 When…

Best & Worst Moments Of The Beijing Olympics

Our contest, Xomba Is Green With Envy, is coming to a close Sunday night. Be sure to get your last minute entries in. Looks like we have quite a bit of reading to do next week.
Check out contests section for more details.

Jeremy informs me he is quite disappointed in the recent personal attacks and flames going in the comment section.

While we welcome you guys to critique and ridicule each others opinions we will not allow personal attacks. If you want to beat each other up then take it to email. It has gotten to the point that reading anything political or religious gives me a migraine. We encourage you to argue about MCcain Vs. Obama, but don't take it to a personal level.

Unfortunately, I am losing faith that we all can remain civil.

To learn that some of you feel we are being one-sided is absolutely preposterous and hurtful.

You need to realize that Jeremy and I spend most of our time chasing after the annoying Watch (popular TV show here) blurbs to have to babysit a few members.

We all get hot and angry over comments, but heed this last warning. Get it under control or do we need to be so childish to dish out 10 day suspensions?

An adult time out, if you will.

I surely, hope not.

To those of you who have been flagging more and more we whole-heartedly thank you!!!

Please keep it up.

Monday is a holiday here in the states, so new articles will be posted Tuesday morning.

We have banners coming. We're undergoing final edits on them now. You'll soon be able to post banners with your referral code all over the internet. I'm sure webmasters everywhere will be rejoicing!

Agree

I truly disliked those long, convoluted, name calling sessions. It went on forever.

The requirement should be that comments be constructive

I have been the subject of a good chunk of the animus on this website and I have no problem dealing with it. Where I do draw the line is when the commenter, rather than further the discussion or respond constructively to what was written, either launches an ad hominem attack against the author or writes a one liner: "That was stooooopid" without anything else. I disagree with the idea that there should be limitations on what is written within Xomba and Google Adsense guidelines. I would rather read a good, thought-provoking piece on the benefits of world peace than a comparatively mindless, transparently click-driven piece on Britney Spears' taste in underwear. The writers on this website are going to flock to whatever is making money for the moment, as a general rule. I agree that there needs to be a collective chill pill swallowed by all Xombies, myself included. But, as long as the existing Xomba rules are equally enforced--which Nick and Jeremy have been doing well--then the only caveat to posting comments should be that they are constructive and further the existing discussion. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

You're right

It was moron, not idiot. I didn't mean to "vork" anyone, LOL.

I vote "Aye"

You have my one vote on that.

Moron

Not Idiot! Permanent sounds real good My writings here My profile here

Timely

"I think they should all be curbed for the moment." How about curbing them permanently?

Timely Intervention

Thanks Nick, for this timely intervention. It was beginning to get a little uncomfortable on the site and I am sure that some people will feel discouraged to write their point of view on any article for the fear of being called names or insulted. For sometime now, this seems to be becoming the norm. All those endless articles on War and religion were really taking all the limelight and creating a "bad" atmosphere here on Xomba, besides giving everyone a headache. I think they should all be curbed for the moment.

Relax, indeed!

I can't believe someone actually called Nick an "idiot"! Guess they didn't know he is the CEO of Xomba, huh? I don't know if this person was a "newbie" or not, but I learned long ago that when joining any new Web site or group that it's good to read the content a while before posting to get a feel for the group. If I notice a new person calling people names, etc., that turns me right off to anything that person might have to say.
