Xomba Blog | I Thought Beta Was Fish...

Hey Everybody,

We're entering week 2 of Xomba 3.0 live Beta.  Thanks for all the encouragement and positive messages.  We've had an overwhelming response to the new design.  Over a year of work went into it, from design to programming.

Thank you for bearing with the bugs.  We feel confident that most of them shall be gone by next Monday.  As we solve them we'll post updates on our blog.  Please remain patient just a few more days.

Regarding HTML and videos in your posts.  HTML code will not work in your posts.  We have no intention of allowing it in the future.  We do plan to allow you guys to post Youtube and Hulu videos again.  Hopefully, it won't take too long for us to activate that.

Reads and Images are saved.  Don't worry your old reads will be coming back this week or next.

We're still noticing and getting reports of higher CTRs and Adsense revenue.  Excellent news.  We'll continue to monitor here on out and plan to do some light modification on the top Adsense block on Xombytes.

We've brought back the Hall Of Fame page.  We just need to update it with the new members.

Our plan for this week is as follows:

  • Conquer remaining bugs on the site.
  • Plan for officially launching Xomba next week.
  • Prepare two new contests to be launched in the next two weeks.  One of which will have significant prizes.
  • Jeremy will be sending out reminders and updates to Feature Writers.
  • Planning our new front page feature called Xomba Recommends.
  • Getting Xomba Chat re-enabled.
  • Re-Adding the Make Money pages.
  • Getting the Share This/Bookmark button on all the posts.
  • Printing new T-shirts!
  • and so much more...

Bear with us.  We have some busy weeks ahead.  Not to mention more development.

Coming Features

  • Xomblurb/Xombyte Friend Filter
  • Most Votes Friends
  • User Search
  • Plus Many Others

Future development for the next several months.  We have a lot planned and we're so excited to finally officially launch Xomba after 3 years.

Should be an exciting 12 months!

Thank you for supporting us and remember you guys were all the original members.

We'd like to thank our awesome interns; Kristen, Rachel and Sarah.  They were a huge help these last 2 months. You guys rock!  Unfortunately, this is their last week with us and we'll miss them.

Take Care,
Xomba Staff

Recent and Categories Working

Recent Xombytes and Categories work except the most voted for in categories.

We're still working on that.

Just what I wanted!

Hey thanks Nick,

That's exactly what I was looking out for. Things are really looking up. Will try to upload images and see if it is OK.

Images Work and Recommended Content

Ok you should be able to post images again.

Recommended Content should work as well.

Thanks Nick and Rawnak

Thanks for the info Nick and Rawnak. I'm going to try applying again. It's not like my name is Smith, or something common and that's why they keep loosing my application, either.
Rawnak email me some links to your xombytes where you use it so I can see it in action.
 Thanks

Having problems with Images

Hi Nick,

I tried to write this byte explaining how to upload an image:

http://www.xomba.com/welcome_new_xomba_how_upload_images

today and kept getting a "warning message" that I have replicated in my comment on the post. The warning says that "permission is denied" to post images. I know that you are working on the "Images" BUG right now and so, I am not that worried about it as I know that you will get to it sooner or later.

I am just writing it here to bring it to your attention, in case you are unaware about  this particular problem that has cropped up suddenly.

Amazon Affiliate links

Do work when you put in Text links in relevant content and at the right time of the demand of a product.  I made some great sales when I started off with my amazon affiliate program during 4th July. I managed to make $4 in just two days after putting in the links. I must say that "ALL" the sales were only through the links and not through the "Banner" or "Widget" that I have put all over.

So go ahead and sign up with the program. Put links inside your articles relevant to the content and leave it. Sooner or later you will get a sale. You can also make an aStore like mine:

The Shopping Arcade and add that link to your signature which will appear on all comments and below each article or post. You will be surprised to see that people do click on the link.

I hope this has helped you to make up your mind.

It Can Work

Good question.

Currently, you have the ability of using Amazon Affiliate program by linking with a plain hyperlink.

I think this is fine as far as the Adsense goes.

However, it all depends on what you write about. Product reviews would do well to use a link to Amazon using their Affiliate program.

I see no harm in testing it, but just keep in mind the articles you use it on.

Where There is a Will There's a Way

Amazon affliate programs.  Nick, that's the word I was searching for. I looked at some old comments, and Nick, you said you thought Amazon affliate clicks were taking away from Adsense orofits. You had signed up personally to be on the Amazon Affliate Program. Do you still think Amazon is a waste of time, or are your really working on getting xomba to take the code again?

Maybe working on getting our Amazon affliate programs up and running again isn't a good idea? Should I apply for the program or not? I would like to know what others are making off of it.

New Xomba

Looking forward to the site getting back on track.

Still no images on many posts except for the few I've manually corrected.

ctrs - I did see a small increase in ctrs for the past couple days (well, not today..today tanked.lol),  I hope to see that continue (the rise, not the tanking)

Amazon. Looking forward to your plan to be able to more efficiently incorporate Amazon links.

html - bummed out about that..but what can you do? That's what happens when there are idiots online who exploit that.
