Xomba Blog: New Design Updates

Hey Everyone,

I'm excited to let you all know that yesterday I got to take a peak at the new website. We were specifically looking at the new WYSIWYG editor. That's short for What You See Is What You Get. You may not recognize the term, but I'm sure you've seen it in action. The editor will let you easily produce bold, underline and colored text among other things.

Here's an example of the editor.

It may not look exactly like this, but you get the idea.

Not only will this make it easier to post your article, but we're changing the way you submit an image. There is a button on the editor that let's you easily upload an image and attach it to your article. From there you can graphically move the image around and place it exactly where you want it. Yup, Xomba is coming into the 21st century.

The other thing we discussed was the complete change of the buddy system. We'll be unrolling a simpler version of that as well.

Unfortunately, we do not have any screen shots that are ready to be put up yet, but I think we will soon. The site is coming together though and we are making swift progress.

We'll be updating you guys on the site design with future blogs. Should be more and more info every week to pass on.

Last chance if you want a Xomba holiday card. We've sent out quite a few and this is your last opportunity to grab one.

If you want one send us your address and real name. Use the contact button on the top of Xomba and please do not drop it in a comment.

We can only send mail to our North American friends.
If you live outside North America we'll be happy to email you a card. (No, not lame, we'll make sure the e-card totally rocks.)

Have a great week and we'll be in touch,

Nick

All WYSIWYG (wizzy-wig) does is shortcut the same code

Instead of typing additional code tags for bold type , the WYSIWYG feature will automatically add them for you when you hit the "b" radio button on the menu. Same outcome as far as the software is concerned. JOIN US IN TOASTING YOUR FUTURE SUCCESS!

Ah, I see it now...

It looks like something was added that will get removed when the new site upgrade kicks in. There doesn't seem to be anything in the dropdown menu for placeholders that would be useful to the casual writer/Xomba member. JOIN US IN TOASTING YOUR FUTURE SUCCESS!

@jdubhub-champagnedreams--I'm Wondering if Abmox Informs Us

I'm sure you've seen by now, 'placeholders' is a link Xomba gives us beneath the Xomblurb-/Xombyte-entry space (sorta like it used to give us links to open a description-text entry, except I think this opens something more like a list). I think it's a list of code-entries we can use in our title and -headings to make the articles and `blurbs automatically-updated. I hope Abmox describes in detail what the codes do, but--until then--it's time to be scientific! EXPERIMENT! Dig too deep and you'll find Chinese characters

At least that's the way the legend goes for those who have considered digging til they couldn't dig anymore. Plus, you'd probably do something relatively unpleasant to the balance of inner and outer core of this planet. JOIN XOMBA IN TOASTING YOUR FUTURE SUCCESS!

@jdubhub-mythman--So Etymology is the Gateway-Drug to Archeology

I'm just fine gettin` high of the P.I.E. (Proto-Indo-European, a theoretical pre-existing language ... a sort of "pig Aramaic") in the 'gabbage'-dump in my backyard; but I always HAVE wondered, "What if I just keep on digging?" lol ---Uncle MythMan (http://www.geocities.com/jmythh2k5) & the Xombies Echo the Universe & GET MONEY for Discussing the Wonderful World Above & the Beauty Around Us!

nah

I don't think so.

I'd imagine not,

AnotherThing, but couldn't say for sure. Jdub has a good point about dying languages, but surely we saw this coming? The loss of html is akin to archaic devices such as the 8-track, VHS etc - easier, more user-friendly things take their place; - tis progress, no? Until, of course, the apocalypse comes armed with a giant EMP device that wipes all technology away, and then we have to start from scratch..... ....sorry, I digress. I have enjoyed learning html from xomba though - has been handy in other areas of teh interwebs and learning is always easier when done through practice :) Subscribe to XHellcatX's Xombytes
