Xomba Blog | New Rules

Xomba Blog | New Rules

On Xomba we try to maintain a high level of quality as well as give people the opportunity to post what they like. Over the summer, after we banned live streaming sports games, people began posting watch scores instead. While the links to these posts are valid we are simply getting overwhelmed by all of these posts.

From now on users may post a link to the scores of all the days games once a day. So for instance a Week 17 NFL Live Scores post where you would list in the summary all of the games would be fine. Making a post for every single game would not be acceptable.

There are just a few days left in the Best Xombyte of 2008 voting so if you haven't cast your vote already please make sure to do so now! Here's the link agan:

"Denote" Here Means More 'Threaten' than 'Report', Yes?

For example, if I were to talk about one of the recent destructive actions in Europe and expressing some opinion on the matter, that would be more 'journaling' than 'warning'; right? ---Uncle MythMan of the Professional Friends who GET MONEY for Echoing the Universe (the Wonderful World Above & the Beauty Amidst)

Rule Number 12

"12. Content which denotes or promotes any kind of violence, racial intolerance, prejudice, bigotry, hatred, or is in any way abusive, threatening, obscene, defamatory, or in any way implies or advocates any of the above against any individual based on race, religion, sexual preference, political affilliation, or any of their groups or organizations. This includes anyone who expresses their views on Xomba regarding any of of the above. Insults and name-calling will not be tolerated in your posts or in your comments." Take note of this rule as the violation of it will not be tolerated.

Creature Evolving Daily

Speaking of a creature evolving daily..do you guys have any baby pics of Abmox? So, two Xombies and a Rabbi walk into a bar. The bar is empty except for one patron. Sitting at the end of the bar, they see a huge gorilla with an almost empty bottle VERY expensive scotch on the bar in front of him and two suitcases at his feet...(My unfinished joke of the day) How to Write Funny

Not a sports fan

I do not watch sports and when I come to Xomba and find nothing but sports listings for my quick look, I am frustrated. I think limiting is a good idea. And for the record, I think Xomba is awesome and look forward to reading the articles every morning, noon and night! The fact that Nick and Jeremy are active in postings is a great touch too. You guys rock! Happy New Year to all on Xomba!! I dare ya...c'mon you know you want to...Smile! MJ

Happy New Year

On behalf the staff of Xomba we wish all of you a safe and happy New Year!

Being Fair

It's all an experiment, much like life. You have to tweak the rules, create new ones and let go of old ones. Xomba is a living creature that is evolving on a daily basis. We can only try to raise it and frame it with the morals and values we hope it will hold. You might laugh, but this is very true. Xomba's mission has always been trying to produce quality content that people would want to read while allowing users to make money. It's a tightrope and we have to dance on it everyday.

A Problem with Lines and Boundaries

I think Xomba's faced the problem of boundaries since day one of going public. I know some things today were considered against the rules before, and that's the trouble with the Internet society. Those rules fluctuate, deviate, and sometimes completely evaporate. It sucks, but someone has to do it, but do it with enough tact to avoid losing valuable members, or stepping on too many toes. So far, the stance taken seems to be appropriate, because I agree I don't want to see Xomba become like Digg, so all in all, I'd say just keep an open mind.

@-mythman-XbA-w.U--Consice Advice to Keep Us $p@m-Free, Jdubhub!

Like The Golden Rule, that's the ~good~ kind of rubber-stamp! ("refrain from posting any comment if it doesn't add to either the article or to the thread discussion"). I would interpret it 'make your goal in commenting the same as that of the content you're responding to,' but that might involve a little too much thinking. That may sound backward ("idn't 'thinking' what we wanna do here?"), but what we're dealing with in spam-detox is the 'feeling' of annoyance that spam causes. Commenters ought to think, 'If someone else posted this comment, and I read it; would I feel that it was another part of the discussion? or would I feel badly-distracted from the discussion?' ---Uncle MythMan of the Professional Friends who GET MONEY for Echoing the Universe (the Wonderful World Above & the Beauty Amidst)

@Idw--We Don't Want to Be Another Rapid-Fire $P@mCast Like Digg!

MAYBE Digg thinks ~we're~ the 'rapid-fire spam-cast,' but their pre-judgment of ALL our links as 'spam' shows their lack of faith in us. The 'same URL'-posts--I think--will be eliminated in the new program---I just hope Abmox doesn't set the filter to 'all links that start with "http://www."' or some such imprudent 'conformifacation'. I do understand if a series of games is posted to Xomba, but only if each of the games is posted with a notable differentiation AFTER THE POSTER WATCHES THE GAME (and before the poster watches another). That practice would keep the "Recent Xombytes"-list down to one game per page (rather than "GAME after GAME after GAME after GAM-SPAM-SPAM-SPAM-SPAM!") ---Uncle MythMan of the Professional Friends who GET MONEY for Echoing the Universe (the Wonderful World Above & the Beauty Amidst)
