Xomba Blog: Nick's Home And Changes Are Coming

Hey everyone,

I've made it home from our long road trip. I want to thank all of you for reading my blog about the trip and I hope to finish my last post about Vegas in the next couple of days.

Over the next two months we'll be rolling out new features on Xomba and a whole new look now that the upgrade has been completed and successful.

First, we should have related articles up and running this week. I've seen it in action and I think it is better than how it used to work. We are finishing up bug testing with it.

Highest rated articles on your user profiles should return shortly as well.

We've added a new way to get userpoints (which will play a great part in the near future).

User Points are earned when certain actions are completed on Xomba. Here is the breakdown of points you can earn on Xomba:
5 points - Post Xombyte
4 points - Refer A New User - NEW
3 points - Post A Xomblurb
2 points - Upload an Image
1 point - Leave A Comment
Consequently, you will lose points for deleting any posts you made.

Do you guys like the word userpoints? We were thinking of possibly changing it? Any suggestions?

Some of new changes that will happen in October are hopefully going to cut down on some spam issues.

1. All Titles Must Be Unique
- If you post a title "Nick Is Awesome" no one else will be able to post that exact title.

2. Xomblurbs cannot have the same links.
- You will no longer be able to link to the exact same url in Xomblurbs. This only goes into effect for new content after the change takes place. www.cnn.com and www.cnn.com/business will be treated as DIFFERENT. However, no one else can enter cnn.com as the link. If you do you will be taken to that Xomblurb and asked to comment or vote
on it. This is only for the Xomblurb Link Field.

3. Limit 5 tags per article.

Most of these changes are leading up to an awesome feature that I think you all will love. However, this will also cut down on spam and people blatantly piggy-backing on each other.

It is good to be back and I must thank Jeremy for working hard while I was away. He did an awesome job.

Have a good day,
Nick

No

No you do not. Hurricane would be fine.

Reply to Idlewild about tag length

The tag box is limited to 255 characters currently. You can save space by not putting spaces after the commas between words.

When a search engine categorizes a page by the key words, does it automatically consider the plural forms of the key words? If you type "hurricane," do you still need to use "hurricanes" as a keyword too?

@Free SEO Resources: "You

@Free SEO Resources: "You write out a brief, descriptive paragraph and share the URL," touché; but 'putting a "minimum" on the text' is a waste of time ... I've had several Xomblurbs erased due to inadequate description when just three words would've been 'descriptive enough.' "to share an interesting link with the rest of the community," only sharing 'what you think about it' if you are so-inspired or think some 'warning' is appropriate. ---Buddha tells Uncle MythMan, "Flood the Open Eyes with the Truth, for as Long as You Exist!" @myth..umm, yes...

I know you've been here for a while, but you may want to re-read the getting started section. "Xomblurbs are social bookmarks that allow you to share an interesting link with the rest of the Xomba community. You write out a brief, descriptive paragraph and share the URL." @F.R--Umm, No

Xomblurbs were added specifically-because (among other reasons) Xombies are not the SOURCES of Xomblurb-info; Xomblurbs are examples of Xombies' sources, not Xombies' amassed collections of personal knowledge. Besides, more rules leads to more 'cheating the rules.' If you want to have a personal 'quota,' that's great; I have a personal 'quota/limit' of two posts a day and -no more than two Xom-posts on the front-page at one time, but I don't demand that people adopt the same limit. I simply choose to know that the ones who aim for 'quality' WILL adopt some-such moderation. ---Buddha tells Uncle MythMan, "Flood the Open Eyes with the Truth, for as Long as You Exist!" Related Articles..and Blurbs

I like the related articles. I just noticed. Very nice addition (or reintroduction). Xomblurbs: Perhaps it might be good to set a minimum length for blurbs. I see many blurbs that are just something like: "The official website of stuff here" or even less. If someone is recommending a link, I'm sure they can squeeze out at least 25 words to describe the link or why they chose to post it. The links to related articles are new to me, as well. Looks good, guys. Keep up the good work. :) ↑ Grab this Headline Animator
