Xomba Blog | The Return of Reads

The big announcement on Xomba today is the return of reads! They are located at the bottom of each post right next to the add a comment link. Because of the return of reads, we will no longer be allowing users to insert their own hit counters.

Soon the related articles will be back as well so stay tuned and I will let everyone know when that happens with a comment at the bottom of this page.

We have 3 new feature articles posted to our front page today including an article about VP pick Sarah Palin , a look back at the death of Heath Ledger and how more and more people are hanging out at Bookstores .

Also, since it is Monday. I like to bring everyone a feel good picture to start of the week. This one is being called "Brain Freeze". I think that it is ridiculously cute.

P.S. - Xomba is Green With Envy winners are coming next week. Keep the Spooky Xomba entries coming!

'there will always be the "weeds" (little mishaps)' I think one of the reasons for the suggestion was that I saw a post whose rating-score was higher than it's reads (I forget where, and won't go looking for it!) I just figured that--with more than one program counting--you would be surer of the counters' accuracy ... ... but you're right; if the server gets stuffed, it won't matter HOW many surfers witness the 404-page. ---Buddha tells Uncle MythMan, "Flood the Open Eyes with the Truth, for as Long as You Exist!" the posts that dont have them maybe havent had any reads in the past couple of days the reads have been activated. in fact, xomba has started the reads count from where it left off... my very old posts have same reads as when the reads machine stopped. Its awesome to have the reads back :-) the counters were too tiresome and i had to keep deleting my url channels many times over! I'm not sure why you would want to do this, but please do not use the free web counters on your posts anymore.

Reads vs. Adsense

Any time your post is viewed it counts as a read. Adsense only reflects half of the impressions and should not be used as reads anymore. Your reads might also reflects bots as well which I believe Adsense ignores.

It's possible that some older posts haven't gotten and reads since the new read-counting mechanism was activated. I think the count goes up every time the post is viewed, whether by a new person or the same person viewing it multiple times. The counts for some of my posts seem a bit off versus what Adsense shows; I don't know which is right, but it's not too big a deal for me.

Are they accurate and unique??

The reads are new to me as a newer xombie. They dont seem accurate/ some old posts have them / some dont. The numbers dont seem right to me. And are they "unique" as in counting only new reads or do they count all reads as in every time I look at a post of my own it is counted as a read again? Just curious. Thank you for all the work you are doing for improvements.

The reads will never be reset, however they were not working for the last year ( I guess it has been a year) so they were not counting. I'll keep your feature in mind, but it would probably push the server.
