Xomba Blog | Rules and Subscriptions
Hey everyone,
We updated our front page with some new articles. Get a sneak peak at Metal Gear Solid 4 or if you are strapped for cash this summer read about taking a vacation at your home.
We want to talk about two things today that have recently been brought to our attention.
The first thing is subscriptions and how they work(aka email notifications). We posted a new entry in our FAQ this morning covering this topic. To read about it click here.
The second topic deals with users reposting the same Xombyte/Xomblurb, but changing it slightly. This is spamming.
Here's an example:
Acceptable:
A story about Hillary Clinton dropping out of the race.
A story about Barack Obama winning the nomination.
A stroy about McCain winning the nomination.
Not Acceptable:
Three stories about Hillary Clinton dropping out of the race all with different titles and slightly different content.
If you are re-posting a story to try to cover more keywords then you are spamming.
If you are writing three stories about Hillary Clinton dropping out of the race from different angles then that is fine.
For Instance:
Acceptable:
Clinton drops out of the race seeks VP slot.
(story is about how Clinton is trying to become VP)
Clinton tells campaign staff not to come to work Monday.
(story is about Clinton's campaign staff at the end of her run)
Clinton vows to campaign for Obama after she drops out of race.
(Story focuses on her campaigning for Obama after nomination run)
These stories are all different(and completely made up).
You cannot post both a Xombyte and a Xomblurb that are about the same thing.
Those of you breaking this rule know that you are spamming.
If you feel like you are breaking the rules then most likely you are.
We have no patience for this and we will not tolerate it.
Consider this a warning.
How many people are actually committing this offense?
Very few if any.
I think there is some confusion about what is acceptable and what isn't.
Drop a comment here (with links to examples) and lets discuss.
Jeremy and I only get angry when people knowingly break the rules or continue to break them.
If you have questions please ask us directly or comment here.
Xombytes are not meant to be points of discussion about Xomba rules.
The staff of Xomba knows the rules and can better answer questions for the whole community. This eliminates any confusion and/or bad information.
I do have a favor to ask, can you guys recommend any more topics for the FAQ? Not sure if we cover everything.
Monday will put up 4 more featured Xombytes and we'll delve in to advertising on your Xombytes.
Should be fun.
Thanks for all the support and have a great weekend.
Nick & Jeremy

Xomba Spam
We received an email that deals with writing a topic and having a second chance if it does not do well on searches.
While I understand wanting to make the most money as possible this would not work.
If everyone could post as many titles about the same content do you realize what would happen?
Google search clearly defines in their rules that you are not allowed to keyword spam. Xomba's rules clearly state that we do not allow spam.
If that was the case then we would just have programs(bots) that would generate popular titles all day long.
Xomba would become nothing more than a "spam site".
We strive on quality.
We're not talking about New York Times here, but rather our goal is that most people should feel like they gained insight from reading your byte/blurb.
Clarification
Just so everyone is clear we're not targeting anyone. I don't believe this is a huge problem that is going on. The only reason we wrote about this today was because it was being discussed in a separate thread.
FAQ suggestions
Guys, it would be nice if you explained what the contents of the box under our user name means (starts with Post a Xombyte, etc.) Some of us are challenged or too chicken to click on stuff to see what happens. A "how you navigate" type thing. Mind you, I'm too tired to check to see the FAQ if you all have already done this. So if you have, I heartily apologize from the depths of my lazy heart!!
BTW, wanted to thank you for the Amazon card - it was quite a nice Friday surprise :)

FAQ
You really might want to read the FAQ before you ask the admins to add something... it might already be in there!
Idle
Please read my above post. It's pretty clear I was tired, popped onto the site quickly, and made that post. Your censure is unnecessary and petty.

Huh?
"Your censure is unnecessary and petty."
I did read your post. My comment wasn't a censure, it was a suggestion. If you were tired, why not look at the FAQ when you're *not* tired?
Monday Monday
All he was saying if you're going to ask us to add something in the FAQ please check to see if it is there first.
We get lots of emails. While we appreciate and encourage feedback it does help if you make sure something isn't already listed before asking it to be listed.
Remember we are just two guys running things.
A list of what we need to do this morning.
1. Answer all emails from the weekend.
2. Prepare articles for front page.
3. Come up with snazzy by lines for the articles.
4. Post pictures in these articles.
5. Create page that will host all Featured Xombytes that have fallen off the front page.
6. Moderate the site. Deleting the junk and spam.
7. Prepare for conference call at 3.
8. Yadda yadda yadda
As you can see we're pretty busy. So, Idle isn't being an ass he's just trying to help us out.
To answer your question this is not in the FAQ. It used to be in the Help section, but became outdated.
We are planning on drafting up a new help section this and next week.
spam
Gee Whiz this is the second time I am reading about spam on xomba, its awful this subject has to be addressed. It kinda makes me want to steer clear of writing series, although I know series writing is not spam.

Not that bad
It truly isn't that bad.
Every site has it. People just post plagiarized junk.
