Xomba Blog: What You Can Expect From The New Xomba

Hey everybody,

Update

Please do not put the word "Official" in your article title when referring to a website. Readers get confused and think we're the official website of whatever you are reviewing.

We wanted to fill you guys in on what to expect with the new Xomba look.

Here's a rundown that includes most of the major additions/changes you will find.

We're holding back a few surprises that we are working to get in before the launch.

New Tabs

We will be adding to new tabs at the top of every page that take you to Xombytes and Xomblurbs.

There you will be able to view most recent, most read, most votes and all comments. This includes a filter for 7 days, 30 days and all time.

Updated Member page. A new Member tab will display who's online, highlight feature writers and a member directory.

Profile Page

You'll be able to comment on your friend's profiles.

You'll be able to see a user's total reads on their profile.

New profile fields-

Colleges attended:
Hometown:
Places lived:

A new Favorite Feature. You'll be able to see users' favorite articles.

On your profile you'll be able to put email addresses in to invite family and friends to join Xomba. This automatically includes your referral code.

You will have the ability to view all posts by a user and sort by

* Most Recent
* Most Popular
* Most Votes
* Most Discussed

Profiles will have rss feed button.

Overall

Every page looks more professional.

Yes, we've included Abmox.

Much easier navigation block.

We've gotten rid of 80% of the blocks.

We should have another update Monday or Tuesday including a small FAQ about the redesign.

How about a side job for Abmox?

Taking a page from Wilma Proops, Abmox can be the Agony Uncle of Xomba, doling out advice for the lost and lovelorn. Actually, that might be an interesting weekly column. Hmm... I am working on my first pieces for my Featured Writer section and am looking forward to seeing the new site live. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!

Very exciting, can't wait

Very exciting, can't wait for the new changes. I absolutely love the badge idea!

In Defense of Abmox @ath

I don't know much about 'being sensitized to women,' but I think (unofficially I do this, having AB-SO-LUTE-LY NO ADMIN-POWER HERE lol) that Abmox is a sort of 'model Xomba-zen,' a near-constant reminder that--no matter how 'unpresentable' we may be in-person--our thoughts, opinions and ideas are just as valid as those of ... THE BEAU-TI-FUL PEO-PLE, THE BEAU-TI-FUL PEO-PLE ... ---Give Your Opinion Too!, & Google MIGHT find some extra money for you like they do for My Latest Work!

---when You Join Xomba, you can join this- and MythMan's other-hot discussions!

Tips

He will be in charge of tips, contests and possibly some other stuff. Let us get the new site up and we'll think about animating him. :)

I like the idea of being able to "moderate" the comments

Realclimate.org does that, and has surprisingly little trouble with trash. Now, I know you are working on the post for tomorrow, but what just happened to my partII.Ice Core records posting. It had about 50 reads and one comment, and I was fixing the broken links, fixing images, and poof, when I update the post, resubmit, it is gone.Comments are there. ? ? Is this vanishing a new feature? Or is this a Bug? The same bug that destroyed my earlier Ice Core CO2 posting? What happened? I did not delete it. System tells me the post was updated. But it is nowhere to be found. The system did and continues to do something to the postings on climate, though the comments are still there. Hope the "improvements" handle this and the "tables" problem. Looking forward to your new message. Thanks, les

Could he have a life?

I'm just thinking that he could have his own take on things, why not bring him to life? He could have the quote of the week, the highest rated etc, what's he's been up to (ie your stuff) make friends with him, he could be the pinnacle for rating... I'm not keeon on monsters myself but please don't take it personally, it's just I've had a few encounters with reptiles which I'd rather not mention... Can he be animated in some way? As a guide? Just a thought... Alethea

Yes and no

Yes, he'll still be there, but you'll only see him logged in. We have new pictures of him, but they will be small. He'll still be found on some miscellaneous pages like contests and such. He's the mascot of the site and is overwhelmingly popular. I love Abmox and so do most of our users. We don't want him all over the website, but he needs to have a role.

Hi Nick..

Just one point I am wondering about.. Is the green and purple monster going to be the "icon" of the site? Generally, women are not so sensitised to scary green and purple monster leathery things.. not often anyway, just a thought.. Alethea
