Re: comment jumping....

I'm using Firefox, latest version (3.0.3) and I agree with the whole getting an email about a comment, to have it not be there. I also had a problem with the search engine today - just wouldn't work. Won't be able to attend the workshop (I'm like, 6 hours in the future) but have fun and thanks for working hard to improve the site, everybodies :)

Search function

doesn't seem to be working at all today? I keep getting the message - "The Apache Solr search engine is not available. Please contact your site administrator." I have only just noticed the "filter" function, but as the search is not operational, can't check it out! And I managed to upload some photos from my digital camera yesterday in Xomba successfully.

Whenever it feels like it.

No doesn't seem to act up on this particular xombyte. It does it when ever it feels like it, and then the site goes down, and I get an error message, operation aborted, can't bring up, url..., and then I get website has expired, and I start all over. Very frustrating. I'm learning to type fast. HP sent me a note. They are having problems with Internet Explorer Vista Premium, and Juno, and HP some sort of interconnective bug, that doesn't occur with cable, or WiFi connections. You will have to ask HellCat, and JdubHub what they are using, and when it occurs. It's very random. Happens most when I'm signed on, and I've left comments on the site, or my own stuff. I swear xomba doesn't like me today. Doesn't seem to happen on other sites;however. I think I have all my settings set right. I ran a diagnostic, it said to reset my settings. I then set SSL30, SSl29, annd TS1 to on like it told me to, but I'm still getting it. Which one is your setting?

Comments

Are they jumping around on every thread or just specific ones? Is this thread completely out of order? Sorry for so many questions but we cannot get this issue to happen on our end.

Petty tooting and farting

Re: ildewild's petty tooting and kjhack's original, yet modest, horn-toot. (this isn't directly about farting) I make this comment and add some questions as the originator of the article "Are Farts Funny?" - currently 6th in the Highest Rated panel. Will you make this panel more prominent on the new front page? Do you give any reward for attaining this high position? Could you consider doing so? If you do award points for such impressive performances but it's on a discretionary basis, could you bung me a 100 points on so I can get on page 1 of Users by Points? Could you make that panel more prominent too on the new front page?

What Do You Mean!

What do you mean, Nick you haven't heard of the jumping comment problem! Earlier in this xombyte a comment by XHellCatX states "I have a Question XHellCatX could be missing something (as is so often the case...) but why are the posts at the end of an article all over the place? I mean I can be reading through the replies and come across a post from the day before that's just suddenly jumped around....." and JdubHub states The Threads Don’t Stay Aligned Jdubhub If we select threaded-expanded comments, then there should be an indent in comment replies and they should stay together. What is happening on occasion is the replies are showing up with other comments and the whole thread loses its chronological order. Sometimes, even though we have selected "oldest first" to view comments, we see the newest comments are first. There isn't any particular rhyme nor reason to how the comments appear and when these other things might happen. This is the same jumping comment problem stated differently. I'm sure a lot of people are having the problem? People report in to Nick so we get the technical problem corrected. Until then I've turned autosubscribe off, and I am not ignoring my readers just not checking the comments.

Ok

So what you are saying is that regardless of what setting you choose for your comments they seem to all show up in a random order? I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue before. If you have please let me know. Keep in mind that you should be able to set the ordering of comments from the menu at the end of every post.

Comment Jumping Defined

Comment Jumping is comments before the new programming change at xomba where either oldest first comments come up, or newest first comments come up depending on what your setting was. Now no matter what a readers setting is it goes like this first time you bring up a Xombyte chronological order, second time it's any old jumbled order it feels like, third time it's an entirely new order, all jumbled up in time sequence. And the fourth time it goes like this: Person A responds to persons B comments, and then comments jump around, and readers get confused, and sometimes people get their feeling hurt for 'quote' never saying that. And then everyone is upset. And please people you don't have to call people names in the comments. You can disagree but don't be disagreable. Behave like adults. Anyway looks like I'm not the only person with the "Comment Jumping Crisis". Not only that every time they jump, Xomba's email thinks it's a new comment to a subscribed thread and notifies everyone. I get 3 or 4 messages for the same comment a day. I'm going to stop subscribing. I can't handle it. You guys can yell at each other by yourselves. I have Internet Explorer Vista browser with Juno. Please fix the problem, Nick before we all go crazy. Thanks.

Contest entry

Ahhh, I see. That makes perfect sense. Thanks. :)
