Xomba Top 5's | Top 5 Original Movie Songs

In between Xomba blog updates, we will be posting a fun activity that all Xomba members can participate in. First I will post a topic and list my top 5 favorites regarding that topic. Then you can leave a comment with your personal top 5 list. Arguments and discussion is highly encouraged! < p>

To get things started, the first topic will be Top 5 Original Movie Songs. To clarify, these need to be songs that are completely new and original when the movie was released. No "Johnny B. Goode" from Back to the Future. Nick I'm looking in your direction. Also let's try to stick with songs and not scores from films. Again Nick, no Gremlins theme. Alright so here is my Top 5 Original Movie Songs in no particular order (with Youtube videos).

1. "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" by Spinal Tap (From the movie, This Is Spinal Tap)

2. "The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News (From the movie, Back to the Future)

3. "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon & Garfunkel (From the movie, The Graduate)

4. "You're The Best" by Joe Esposito (From the movie, The Karate Kid)

5. "High School Confidential" by Jerry Lee Lewis (From the movie, High School Confidential!)

Well there is my list, it's a little all over the map but they are all songs that I really enjoy. I look forward to seeing everyone else's list!

"God Give Me Strength" (Elvis Costello), GRACE OF MY HEART "Over the Rainbow" (Judy Garland, written by Arlen & Harburg), THE WIZARD OF OZ "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road" (Fred Astaire, written by Arlen & Mercer), THE SKY'S THE LIMIT "Blues in the Night," (Arlen & Mercer), BLUES IN THE NIGHT "The Man that Got Away," (Judy Garland, written by Arlen & Gershwin - do you see a trend here?), A STAR IS BORN Those are the first 5 off the top of my head.

Typo

Thanks for catching my typo, I really hadn't noticed it. I really wish I had remembered "Don't You (Forget About Me)". I love that song and would have been on my list.

Movie songs

"3. "The Graduate" by Simon & Garfunkel (From the movie, The Graduate)" This is actually "Mrs. Robinson" ... I don't think there was a song called "The Graduate." The soundtrack also included Scarborough Fair and Sounds of Silence... great soundtrack. One of my old favorites is the title song from "To Sir With Love," sung by Lulu. Other random, memorable tunes: Madonna's "Crazy for You" from VisionQuest and "Don't You (Forget About Me)" from Breakfast Club. Not to say any of these are the "best" or "greatest" movie songs; to me it's a combination of how memorable/influential the song or movie were, and their longevity.
